Huge colourful and playful beanbags mark the front entrance to Monde and set the tone for the rest of the boutique; playful, creative, quirky and practical. Monde meaning world in French, is analogous to the products they house coming from all corners of the planet showcasing the best there is to offer in contemporary design and gadgetry. A few standout pieces I saw were recycled soda cap bags from Brazil which are intricately weaved together to form chic and quirky totes, laptop cases and little clutch bags — truly innovative and clever, a wooden children’s stool in the shape of a dog from a famous designer of which only 1000 exist in the world and the ultra luxurious and stunning range from Jacob Jensen. Bear in mind this store is a design store and due to the uniqueness and exclusivity of its products the prices are reflective of that, but amongst these luxurious pieces are also a range of more practical and affordable objects like cute tea sets, champagne holders, quirky bottle openers and other home wares.

Visible from Stirling Highway this shop screams variety from its window and outdoor display. Their stock ranges from unusual to intriguing and chic. The home goods are definitely upper class and couture. If you have no idea what you are looking for then its worth your while coming in here. If its someones birthday or you need something for an engagement party, you definitely won’t leave here empty handed. You will more than likely come out with stuff for your own house too.

I’ve never seen such a variety of different ‘things’ housed under one fairly small roof as I have in Monde. They seem to stock everything you can ever imagine existing, and even some you couldn’t, that isn’t food or clothes — stereos, doorbells, purses, handbags, pet feeding bowls, beanbags, Moleskine notepads, dish drainers, lego brick USB keys, china teacups… the list goes on and on really! It’s the kind of shop you can get lost in for hours and emerge from with an empty purse and a bag full of things you never knew you needed but just couldn’t leave without! Perfect place to buy a gift for a friend or just for your home. But be warned, the prices are quite high.

Monde is a small shop packed with designer goods for the home. I was drawn to the Alessi range here, all shiny and eccentric. And there were some beautiful blocks with illustrations by a New Zealand artist which were captivating. I wish I could remember some of the other designers they stock. Think strong, bright aesthetic, smooth lines and quirky details. Expensive stuff as you might have guessed, but there are a few smaller-priced pieces. Kitchen, outdoor, bathroom, living, men’s accessories, women’s accessories and pets are all covered here.
