You will see this is my second review. This place has gone completely downhill. Used to be top notch. Now the sashimi I had today wasn’t fresh(especially the white fish. Snapper?), the bento box was a disaster — the chicken tasted terrible — a revolting chemical /oestrogen taste. The salmon was very average — the eel was good. What a shame, used to be my fav place in Carnegie.

This cute little Japanese establishment is my go to place for quick, convenient and filling Jap food. Bookings are recommended as the place can get pretty full especially on weekends. Service here is incredibly fast! I love ordering the dishes from the individual table iPads and seeing them come out of the kitchen only mere minutes later! The chirashi here is really good and is probably the dish that I recommend over some of the others like the takoyaki and chicken karaage that aren’t that much of a standout here. The raw octopus dish is always good to try too if you are feeling particularly adventurous!

Located in Kornang Rd, parking is easy and plentiful in the lot behind. Prices are reasonable and staff are always smiling. Even the seating out the back is nice and it’s still warm enough to take your coat off in winter(even though the staff call this ‘outside’). Tonight when we arrived we were told of a 15 minute wait which was actually 5 minutes and not a problem at all for us. I’ve been here about 3 times. The first time with a friend and I was really impressed with both the food and the service. So impressed that the second time I took my mother. Even she was impressed and that’s not easy. Tonight I had the tofu salad which was awesome but the gyoza was completely filled with gristle! So disappointed. I’m hoping this was a one off. I will go back because the food has always been utterly delicious. Oh, I should say that tonight we were seated at a table without an iPad. No big deal. I should also mention that my friend loved the spring rolls and said he’d come back for them but he wasn’t impressed with the fried chicken. He said it was greasy.

I’ve eaten my way through much of this unsurprising Japanese-Australian menu and much of it is surprisingly good. Sashimi in particular is of a quality normally unseen in what has become a street of student cheap eats. What is not in any way remarkable, however, is the front of house. It’s not that they’re rude so much as they seen not to adhere to any logical practice and the results are always odd. You can guarantee that you’ll be seated next to a loo, under a dripping pipe or ignored for an hour. But darn the fish is good. And reasonably priced. Make this a takeaway joint and my score would be five stars.

Went to Shyun based on the Unilocal reviews and it lived up to the reviews. Great local place for sashimi and sushi which was very affordable. Price for two people was around $ 35 and we shared our food. I’m definitely going again! Probably this afternoon in fact!

I don’t often get to try the places in Carnegie as it’s a bit of a trip. However when I am in the area visiting I know the food will be good. Shyun is a small and always crowded Japanese sushi bar. The two things I love the most about it. Super fresh fish and amazing combinations. The food is presented really nicely, the flavours are great and although a little pricy it’s worth it for the good food. A cool bonus when eating in is ordering off the ipads. Always cool. The takeaway is worth getting for a quieter meal at home or a nice picnic.

Close to home, plenty of parking and ordering with an IPAD? YESPLEASE. Shyun is often packed and usually has a line but the trick is to get a booking in if you have enough people. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating and if you are sitting inside, you use an IPAD to order and it is just like magic… press a few buttons and sometimes before you even finish ordering, a few dishes pop up on the table ready for you to dig in. Favourites: I like the bento boxes as you can mix and match The chefs rolls are always mysterious If you go here, it is a good idea to share a few dishes OR else for lunch, often one plate of rolls is filling enough for me. **There is a large parking lot behind this row of restaurants and a short stroll can only help you eat more right?

I really don’t get Shyun as a restaurant. It is often reviewed highly and is almost always very busy but based on the 2 times that I have been there, it is close to the worst Japanese restaurant that I have eaten.

This is a local favourite for Japanese food. It is very well priced for the quality and quantity of food. The bento boxes are Oishii(Japanese for delicious). The staff are very friendly as well. I generally don’t like coming to Koornang Rd but I will defiantly make the journey for Shyun.
