Being a foreigner, I didn’t quite understand how key cutting worked in Australia so I visited Lygon Court for some advice on how to handle my particular situation. As soon as he noticed my key, he disrupted me and said that he couldn’t help. When I probed further because I wanted to know how much a fair price would be, he became impatient and stopped listening. Eventually I managed to get a word in and asked if $ 350 sounded reasonable, and he quickly said yes to which I learned from several other visits that it was a ridiculous quote; he just wanted me to leave the counter so that he could close. Convenient location with Woolies next door, but that’s about all this business has going on for it. Ugh.

It’s extremely hard to wax lyrical about a place that does key cutting(they obviously do shoe repairs as well which of course you can talk about more). Nevertheless, whenever I need to have keys cut, they are the place I go to. They are fairly cheap. They are very fast. And they are a friendly couple of blokes who run the shop. On each occasion the keys have all been cut the right way and have worked on the locks as required. You can’t really say much more than that can you?

I have a pair of black knee high boots that I love. I’ve owned them for three years and they still look great and wear well. Unfortunately, the sole was getting pretty thin and the leather was quite scuffed. I decided it was time to go see a shoe repairperson. I knew that there was one in Lygon Court so I didn’t bother looking around — I just needed one conveniently located near me. I dropped it off and picked it up a few days later and the boots looked brand new. He re-soled the entire shoes and polished the entire boot. It was expensive — around $ 80 for both shoes, but the sole was quite large. It’s been over a year since I’ve re-soled the boots and they still look great. I’ve gone back to re-sole other shoes and only had one issue. One pair of brown boots that were re-soled, the glue came slightly undone, but he was happy to repair that for free. Overall, good quality and happy with the results, and it is centrally located for those in the north side.

These guys are FAST. Once I was in a major hurry to get to lunch when I noticed I had that clip-clunck sound of a broken heel, and the guys at Lygon Court did it on the spot. I’ve since gone back for Topy soles, key cutting and engraving on my cat’s collar tag(which he promptly slipped out of and hid in the cat version of The Room of Requirement), and I’ve always received quick, friendly service. There’s not much more you could ask for from this kind of business! It’s located downstairs near the Safeway entrance. Easiest to enter via Drummond Street.
