Despite Il Vicolo being a ‘Courtyard Restaurant’, we sat in the main restaurant for their much touted ‘Carlton Lunch’ — a set menu of 3 courses and a glass of wine. Firstly, I have to say I’ve got an immense dislike of multi-course set menus that include one glass of wine. It drives me mad! As if I’m going to sit on one glass of wine throughout 3 courses?! But because one glass is already included, I then struggle to get through a whole bottle on top of it(if there’s only two people dining). So I’m basically forced to order a few more wines by the glass, which we all know is the least economical way of doing things. Okay, I’m calm now. The food at Il Vicolo was okay, but I was expecting ‘amazing’ given it pitches itself as such a classy venue. The service was good — our waiter was extremely attentive and kept our water glasses topped up(no doubt looking for a chance to sell us another overpriced single glass of wine). The wine list was fairly good, but had surprisingly few Italian varieties.
