Yes. Just: yes. Perhaps the best of the food truck fad, never been let down by the Beatbox.

Are you human? Can you use Facebook /Twitter /Sniffer Dog or any other means possible to find this food truck? If you answered yes to both of these questions, then stop reading this review & go find beatbox, and eat the Raph burger, with fries & stereo dipping sauce. Don’t worry about the $ 17 price tag, It’s worth it(but does lose that 5th star). That is all. (My fun fact is you can get them to come to your office & set up shop for a couple of hours — #foodtruckfriday is my favourite day of the week, but you wouldn’t know this because you stopped reading to chase the burgers down, didn’t you?)

This is my favourite burger in Melbourne. The quality of the burgers here are second to none. I like that they have focused on perfecting two burgers a meat one and a vegie one. The Raph burger is my fav. The shroom vegie burger is delish as well. Beatbox Kitchen will not disappoint

The truck that pretty much launched the food truck craze in Melbourne, Beatbox is the original burger worth chasing down. Well, I don’t really hunt it down any more, but I must admit that showing up to an event and seeing it parked out the front always brings on a fist pump of delight. The Beatbox burgers are classic style burgers on a big soft white roll, wrapped in foil to stop you from dripping all over yourself — because you’re always going to be eating beatbox in your lap. I’m not sure what their ‘stereo sauce’ is, but I like it. The chips with sauce aren’t blow your mind amazing, but definitely a worth accompaniment to the tasty burger either way. ‘Coz if you’re going to carb up, may as well go all the way, right? Beatbox has gone the distance and is still my fav of the food trucks that have come and gone since.

A few nights ago, after a big night before I decided to head down the street for a quick takeaway dinner. I had no idea what I wanted, but I had already decided that I did not want a burger. Then I saw The Beatbox truck parked ahead of me. I was being lazy and driving, so I thought«ah well, there’s nowhere to park near here tonight». A minute later I had pulled over and were trekking back up the road for a Raph burger. I’ve been undecided as to which Melbourne Food Truck burger is my favourite for quite some time now, but Beatbox is definitely up there. Beatbox is the truck that I see the mist often, as it parks on Lygon at a couple of times a week, where I drive past it frequently, so it’s also the truck I’ve eaten from the most. $ 17 for a takeaway burger and fries is a bit pricey, and the sole reason that this isn’t a 5 star review, but you won’t be full afterwards, that’s for sure. The burgers are big, juicy and cheesy, with just the right amount of toppings, and you’ll get a mountain of fries that even though you want to eat them all, you’ll probably end up sharing them just to finish them off. The staff working the truck are always friendly and seem to be having a great time. Keep an eye out on Twitter for where the truck will be located and get down to it for a tasty burger. Hopefully you get there before they run out of fries!

Agree with what Niketh said. Their burgers are too small for the price you’re paying, and it’s not like the taste is anything special. Maybe I was expecting too much after hearing how popular it was. At least their chilli fries were good. The truck dressed up like a giant jukebox is a nice concept and definitely draws in the crowd but they really need to be more generous with their ingredients if they wanna stay competitive.

Excellent burger. Simple, well presented and delicious. I love the food truck concept. Being from California(the birth of the food truck revolution) I’m all for great food coming from the back of a truck. I think from the massive amounts of love on Unilocal and urbanspoon(I assume this is like saying Voldemort when writing a Unilocal review), indicate that this is a great tasting burger. However; compared to other great burger spots with similar products this burger HAS to get 1 – 2 stars down for the cost. 11 dollars is too high a price for a truck based burger to be charging. A close comparator would be Huxtaburger which is similar in size, and quality of burger, but clocks in at a much more reasonable 8 dollars. That includes an operating cost of having a Smith Street Address. The 11 dollar price mark gives you the«Theo» which has 2 patties, bacon, and double cheese. A completely different bang for your buck(N/B. I don’t particularly care for the Theo as i found their sauce to be too tangy for my liking, but just proving a pricing point) Fergburger in Queenstown is in a different class of «burger joint». They have made 20 different burgers with amazing ingredients, with a focus on quality and execution on every single type of burger they put out. With Beatbox, they make 2 burgers(and make both well), but seem to be charging for the«cool factor» as opposed to making it competitive on both price and quality.

Let me say this, I am a massive fan of basically any food you can serve out of a truck, especially one that looks like my old, favourite boom box from early high school days. The burgers are a solid deal. Great buns, served hot and to order. Often these guys are swamped with business, so be prepared to wait a little for the burger delights. Don’t pass this place up– it’s a win for sure!

If my number came up and I had the chance to have one last meal to eat, it would be Ralph Burger from Beatbox. So far, the only burger that can make a contest out of Beatbox is Fergburger from Fergburger, Queenstown. Anyway, coming back to Beatbox, Thursday night has got to be up there in terms of the highlight of my week. There’s literally a spring in my step after work, knowing that Beatbox’s gonna be outside my apartment from 6pm. Can you think of anything that can top a beer from Mr Wilkinson and a juicy Ralph? I certainly can’t. The only downside I can think of is the inexistence of seating due to Beatbox being a meals on wheels deal although Mr Wilkinson allows you to sit inside provided you buy a drink of course so overall a good deal.

The Beatbox Kitchen is meals on wheels taken to the heights of gourmet burgerdom. It’s a roving burger van that parks itself in a small car park by a green patch on Park St at the top of Rathdowne in Carlton North every Friday from 6pm till the burgers run out. If you don’t see the van first upon pulling up at the location, which you’d have to be a bit blind to miss seeing that it’s a van-sized beatbox stereo, you’ll see half the neighbourhood lazing around on the grass with bottles of beer and wine waiting for their burger order. The other half of the neighbourhood make up the very long queue leading up to the Beatbox van. What is everyone queueing up for, they’re just burgers? Well, they’re not JUST burgers. The grass-fed beef burger is the best $ 11 you’ll ever spend on a meat burger, and likewise with the ‘shroom burger for $ 10. There aren’t any fancy fillings, just the usual cheese, tomato, cos lettuce, onion and stereo sauce — simple and perfectly balanced to showcase the fine quality and excellent flavour of the beef/portobello mushroom. The fries at $ 5 a serve with a range of sauces(mayo, tomato or spicy tomato relish or stereo sauce) are crispy and fresh. The only downside is the long, long, long queue and up to an hour wait for your burger, but come expecting the long wait — bring friends and drinks — and it’s actually a really pleasant wait. I still give it 5 stars based solely on the quality and flavour of the burgers. Stay up-to-date with the Beatbox’s whereabouts by following them on Twitter. They also tweet as soon as the burgers run out(usually by 8.30pm), so you’ll know when to give up on the dream and find something else to eat until the following Friday.
