National Tree Day

National Tree Day at Burnley Park is a really great environmental cause. It calls for anyone and everyone — of all ages — to gather at Burnley Park and help plant plants (heh). I really do like the cause, being an environmentalist myself. I’m the first person keen to volunteer to do some park-​beautification work.
However, with this particular event I can’t rate it too high because I do wish that it is a lot more organised than it is. An event shouldn’t simply rely on the fact that it’s a good cause.
Ways they can improve:
~ Make it more interactive instead of boring and systematic. Right now we just squeeze in baby plants on pre-​dug holes. Maybe try having special areas where people can design their own spaces with flowers, etc. That way it can be more community-​oriented rather than «here’s your job: put this plant in that hole.»
~ They do have a tiny little petting zoo, but it’d be nice if there could be funner things. Like asking local bands to play for free, etc? I understand that it’s meant for a good cause — but it doesn’t mean that we can’t have fun either!
~ After the BBQ lunch, there really was no incentive for people to stay and there was unfortunately a mass exodus out of the park — people were tired. Have some sort of incentive to get people to stay and help out more.

Overall, it could’ve been executed a lot better. I didn’t really have a memorable experience unfortunately aside from finding out that snags go great with pita bread and hummus.
