One of the things that I have noticed about Melbourne (and Sydney, and Adelaide) is that there are a number of good pubs hidden off the main roads (though, especially in Fiztroy, they still become quite crowded on Friday nights). Normally we don’t venture too far off of the main roads so we tend to miss many of these gems. I knew about this place because friends of mine from church come here for dinner every so often, and I have noticed that they have recently had some renovations, having added some booths in the front bar. It also has a really nice beer garden out the back, though my friends tend to end up having their meals inside.

A-​Ok it is. A suburban local, although not mine, The union does decent beers on taps, has quite a safe pub classic menu, and does a specials board. the upsides of this place; No feral pokies or tab, and hopefully as far as I could tell, no huge screen with sports dominating the room. Busy to capacity on tuesday nights, these are best avoided, as the trivia takes over everything else. Safe favorites, homely pub, no contrived pretensions, but they serve PUB CHIPS here and not fries. Good open space area at the back for dining with kitsch coloured lights, usually turned into bushfire season, with all the smokers taking a break outside.

Great selection of beers on tap, lovely beer garden out the back& well above average food. Selection of food is varied & I was extremely full following my steak sandwich, they sure didn’t skimp on serving sizes.
See you next week union, hope you have some mid week specials.

Love this little local. Moved from Brunswick 4 months ago to moonee ponds, and really missing coming down here for a afternoon cider and live music. Nice food, great atmosphere.

Great local pub with good food and a great beer selection. Really nice family friendly vibe, with some neat live music on weekends and some evenings. Tuesday pub trivia is fun, but be prepared for stiff competition and tough questions.
Recommend the burritos and the zucchini fritters (which they will insert into a steak-​free steak sandwich) – serving sizes are huge, and easily justify the price.
All in all, a welcoming atmosphere, and a pleasure to spend a little too much time in.

The Union is my favourite local (and I’m spoiled for choice when it comes to pubs). Great selection of beers on tap, always friendly service, great pub food and great live music in a relaxed venue. It’s one of those pubs where everyone feels welcome from the old guys placing bets on the horses while listening to their portable radio to young families with kids having lunch.
The beer garden is always a favourite on warmer days, and in winter grab a spot in the dining room near the fire. You can’t go wrong with the Parma here, but everything I’ve had has always been good, and good value too.
Is always a good option.

Really yummy food and good wine selection. You can’t go wrong with the zucchini fritters served with Tabasco aioli and the fish & chips are beautiful — crispy and tender with good quality fish. Love the outdoor beer garden, even on a rainy winter’s day. Nicely heated!

Went to the Union tonight for the first time with some girlfriends. Lovely interior, patrons ranged from kids with parents, uni students right up to oldies. Pub menu was delicious. Really nice food. I had a beef & bacon pie with mash & friends had the burger & chicken parma. They both were very pleased. The Union has an awesome outdoor area too. I will almost certainly go back to this place as it close to my work, not wanky & staff were very friendly.

They have a rather nice outdoor eating area which is a great place in summer to have a few drinks with friends. They pretty much have your typical bar menu, so I decided to go for the Beef Burger with iceburg lettuce, tomato, cheese, egg, bacon, onion, dill pickles, beetroot and spicy tomato relish and fries for $ 16, and a pint of bulmers. Definitely one of my favourite pub combinations. It was indeed a standard pub burger, nothing too special. It might have been too dry if it weren’t for the runny yolk which helped to moisten everything up. Unfortunately, however, I won’t ever be going back. At least not to eat. Later that afternoon I had my head in a toilet bowl up-​chucking the night away. I even had to leave my friend’s farewell party early. So I say thanks, Union, for cutting my goodbye to a very close friend of mine so short.

I used to live next door to the Union so I might be a little biased but… I love this place.
Just your good local pub, a great outdoor area and a solid menu. The guys at the bar are lovely (and pretty) and the service is pretty fast considering how popular this place gets. Gone are the Union’s old days of bikies, shootings (seriously!) and dingy interiors to be replaced by a classic modern establishment.
