I’m a food snob but this is a review of a kebab joint in a van on Sydney Road… so keep that in mind for real reviews. Van establishments are not the same a permanent venue — even if the van is pretty permanent. It is just bloody awesome. The quality of this post pub kebab is perfect — by far the best in the city so far. I always go for the chicken kebab(stop gasping in horror guys) and it is always cooked perfectly. I’m always coming back.

So according to the friend who was showing me around Melbourne. This place is an institution in its own way. Simple foods, open late at night, and very affordable. Sounds like a winning recipe to me! I had the mixed kebab, and it was tasty. Good, hot meat, crisp wrap from the griddle… the only issue I had was I said«everything, no onions». I actually said it twice because the guy asked me again. And of course what did I find? Onions. SHEESH. So for the price, the kebab was great. Filling, and exactly what I needed. But still. It’d be nice to not have to eat what you specifically said you didn’t want. *grumble*

While I may not have exactly been on top form at the time of my visit, I was really impressed by Town Hall Kebabs. I mean sure from the outside it’s not much to look at, but these are some seriously good kebabs and resultantly come weekends they do some steady business. Its a rare feat to find a late night snack that doesn’t descend into a shame spiral. Town Hall Kebab does a mean felafel wrap that isn’t soggy, greasy or dry. Nor is it painfully garlicky and or just generally gross as is so often the case. This is my favourite late night pit stop.

This actually looks like the dodgiest little kebab vendor ever! It’s in-between a couple buildings and just has a seedy look about it… come night time though, this place is everyones best mate. Kebab’s after a big night are more a religion nowadays than just grabbing a cab home. You need to enjoy the oily cuisine with your friends while drunkingly trying to hail a cab that will take the atrociously that you are home. This place is lit up by some lovely christmas lights at night and with all the pubs around I’m sure Town Hall makes a killing in the evening. I have enjoyed one or two kebabs here(it may as well have been 58 for all i know) and have to say that they do go down very well. Not too oily but still enough to fulfil the grease my body is craving.

Enter at your own risk. One of the many establishments that doubles up goods with services, during the day you can get your car washed(can’t say I ever have but I know what a clean car looks like, and these are clean), and while here can also grab a kebab while you wait. Located across from the Town Hall, one notices many looking across the road for the few seconds that wait between paying and eating. Quick turnaround(not always a good thing) and quite a character in the van. Late nights are good ones, and the chilli-ing spices will fill the senses the morning after.
