I didn’t have a great experience last time I came here but my willpower waned after some hectic Savers bargain hunting and this place was close by so I decided to give them another bash. The waiter stood so close to me when he took my order I am pretty sure we are legally married now in some countries. I got the chicken chilli sensation and obligatory steamed rice and then once I recovered my personal space realised there was a chunk of… something(??) on the side of my glass of water. Lucky I’d only drunk half already so I was only half repulsed: p My food came out really quickly, which I immediately realised was because it came from a jar of KanTong. Nary an actual chilli in sight. Luckily the rice soaked up most of it and at least there were no roaches? #MrBrightside Oh, I also forgot this place has no condiments. Last time I came here I asked them for chilli sauce and it literally took them ten minutes to bring out a few spoonfuls in a tiny bowl. Tldr; Maccas isn’t that far down the road, just go there next time ya mug!

I lived in Melbourne for a year and, although Asian cuisine places are abundant in Melbourne, this is by far my favorite establishment. The portions are large and the food is delicious. It’s the best fried rice and salt n’ pepper calamari I’ve ever had. Anywhere. And I’ve eaten calamari on four continents. My husband loves their Pad Thai. I hadn’t been in Australia for four years, but the first thing I did after arriving again(after a shower) was immediately going to Green Field.

Not a place for a fancy night out or a date but the food is awesome! BYO and cheap and cheerful! The Fish Satay Temptation is a must have and is just as good when you get it takeaway. Always packed out each night.

Green Fields is one of those funny places that you keep on coming back to despite the fact that it really isn’t all that good. Somehow no matter what you order here, everything tastes the same. The sauces are heavy and a little too sweet and the vegie combination are identical in every single dish. The service is patchy to say the least and the tables always a little sticky. Either way, I kind of like Green Fields. Sure the food is nothing to write home about, but the food is cheap and it’s BYO. If this wasn’t one of the few cheapo pan-Asian eateries on Sydney Road than I’m sure that no one would bother. But it is, so it’s always packed to the brim.

Green Fields is your standard budget pan-Asian eatery. The sauces are heavy and often on the sweet side of things, but the meat is generally a slightly less dodgy cut than a lot of other places. The best items on the menu are generally the western favourites, such as the spring rolls, rice paper rolls, dumplings and hot pots. Anything that sizzles is also a good bet. The service is inconsistent from visit to visit, and some of the waiting staff can appear confused. I’ve been brought the wrong order more than once. However, the takeaway tends to be a bit more organised. There’s also a good selection of foreign beers. The atmosphere is sorely lacking in character, so the restaurant itself can feel a bit baron, even when busy. The prices are cheap but not the cheapest around. On the whole, it’s a decent enough takeaway option given the painful lack of competition for Asian cuisine in Brunswick, but nothing you would consider travelling very far in order to get your hands on.

It’s the perfect place if the same drive that has you salivating for a Thai green curry is what is driving your friend to salivate for a Beef phở. And at Green Fields, everyone is happy! They’re one of those wonderfully, ‘everything here is kinda Asian’ restaurants. From Phở to Curry to Singaporean Noodles to Pad Thai they didn’t try to specify where they’re from but they just tried to be everything to everyone. It works, I guess. It’s nice to have a place that just serves everything for cheap(most meals are around the $ 8 – 12 mark). Their culinary talents aren’t going to blow you away but they’re still pretty freaking tasty! And as a Uni student living on a tight budget, Green Fields fell into that wonderfully category of being cheap enough to justify and tasty enough not to regret.
