Greasy and perfect for a hangover or to give you a lift if your feeling flat. Standard range of pizzas the only one that stands out of the ordinary is the godfather pizza itself. They have a great deal where you can share a small pizza, garlic bread and soft drink for $ 10.90. In my experience they are usually quick with preparing and cooking the pizza… and yes they deliver.

The pizza itself was decent(although a little on the greasy side) and quite cheap. The poor hygiene practices were super off putting unfortunately. The same person who handled cash appeared to be handling ingredients(including meats) without gloves. This is a huge food poisoning risk. I wouldn’t go back, it’s not worth possibly getting really sick for.

Godfather’s self-declared«famous» pizza is the kind that cures a hangover. Greasy and drenched in cheese, it certainly hits the spot when you’re in the mood for something heavy. Godfather’s Pizza does all your basic pizza varieties along with its own specialty, a topping laden with most basic pizza ingredients you can name off the top of your head. The ham used is the stringy, cheap variety and can be overloaded on each pizza, so unless you’re a huge meat lover than it’s best to avoid anything with it on it or ask for it without it. The bases are a sort of happy medium between thick and thin crust, and are unashamedly unhealthy. They also sell single slices at lunch time. Delivery is relatively prompt, as is the overall service in store. It’s probably more enjoyable to eat at home, as the establishment itself is bit cramped and stark. During the daytime there are a couple of benches out the front so you can eat in the sunshine. Godfather’s is never going to be to everyone’s taste, but it’ll always appeal to anyone who likes their pizza unashamedly greasy. The garlic bread is also good.

The pizza dough is the perfect thickness, not too thick, not too thin. It even gets that lovely little puff on the edges like some of the more gourmet places around town. Speaking of gourmet, you won’t find any fancy-pants topping here. These guys are all about creating traditional, old-school pizzas that delivers on flavour by using simple ingredients. The Godfather is one pizza on their menu that I can highly recommend. It comes with the lot, and there’s a lot of it. However, at no point does it get soggy or oily. The chicken pizzas are also quite good, which is a surprise to me because I don’t usually like chicken pizzas combinations. Delivery is quick and the drivers are friendly and pleasant to deal with.

Me and the Godfather get on pretty well. I nipped in there late on Friday night to grab a family sized napoletana pizza to take back to Bar Etiquette, the perfect accompaniment to our big, cold jugs of Ranga. There are loads of pizza places in this neighbourhood but I reckon Godfather’s is up there with the best of them. Fresh, thin crust, the right amount of topping and great ingredients. I waited less than 10 minutes for my pizza whilst observing the delivery guy coming and going with deliveries. At $ 15 for the family-sized pizza, I reckon it’s pretty damned good value. It fed three drunk and hungry grown-ups who all felt sufficiently full afterwards.

What attracted me to Godfathers Pizza is that they sell individual pizza slices and I just wanted a snack and not a full meal. There is nothing special about this pizza place, the usual range of Italian style pizzas and the usual range of soft drinks. When I went in there were four different styles of pizza to choose slices from. None were remarkable and they tasted like ordinary Italian pizzas but I wasn’t expecting anything great at that price. There is seating inside and outside the store on some wobbly steel tables. I choose to sit outside and watch the world go by on Sydney Road while I ate my two slices of pizza.
