Having read the good Unilocal reviews, a friend and I arrived on Saturday night without a reservation to see if we could get a table. It’s not fancy, so tables were being turned over fairly quickly, and we were asked to wait outside for 5 minutes until a table was available. We were going to go for the set menu($ 30 each), but realised we could order a few dishes of the menu to the same value get get more for our money. That was a mistake, as $ 30 worth of food each is far more than even normal hungry people can eat! It was almost embarrassing when spring rolls, two curries, a fried rice and a noodle dish were all brought to our table. It would have been nice if the waitress had warned us that we had ordered a lot more than two people would usually want. Nevertheless, the food was all of excellent quality and phenomenal value. Fortunately, they provided takeaway boxes(at 30 cents each charge) so we were able to take enough for second meal each home with us. Apart from the massive portion sizes without warning, I can’t fault Thai on Street for good value, good quality unpretentious Thai food.

I don’t get the good reviews for this place. It was lower quality than Crown Casino food court. Got a takeaway soft shell crab pad Thai on the special board and a yellow curry with coconut rice. The meat(chicken, ‘soft shell crab’) was disgusting. I couldn’t eat it. It’s amazing in all the years of eating chicken, I’ve never found bits that had that taste and consistency. The only reason this got more than one star is because it wouldn’t be awful if you were a vegetarian. If you want Thai food, go to Tom Phat on Sydney Road instead. I won’t ever get food here again.

I feel like I am pretty spoiled for choice when it comes to great Thai food in my ‘hood and now I have yet another addition to add to the list — Welcome Thai on Street. Thai on Street makes mention on the exterior of the venue that they are Thai ‘fine dining’ however, they really aren’t — and that’s probably for the better. It’s a cosy, simple venue with some pretty spectacular food. The small restaurant was packed late on a Sunday night while the competitors that surround them where empty — do I bother even writing anymore? We ordered the entrée ‘basket’, which offered one item of each of the entrees — fish cake, money bag, spring roll, curry puff and prawn spring roll. All were delicious but the money bags were a particular standout — I might just order them the next time. For mains we shared a classic Thai beef salad, which — be warned — packs a serious chilli punch! However it was balanced out by the fresh mint and tangy dressing — a really great salad. We finished with a red duck curry, which was served atop a single tealight candle — unnecessary but a gorgeous way of serving the dish! It had some incredible flavour and really hit the spot, however a dash more duck and a splash less liquid would have made it an «I’m ordering this every time» kinda dish. The perfect spot if you’re after an easy after-work dinner.

Food quality was excellent and the service was prompt and courteous. The balance of flavors was well done in my curry dish. The prices were remakably affordable for the food quality. I will be dining here again. Highly recommended.

Gang Dang red curry was delicious. Some of the best mild curry I’ve had in a long time. With rice the meal was $ 14, and well worth it! Going home with a full belly and leftover curry sauce :)

Tried this local restaurant based on the high rating on here. The menu is extensive and all sounded good. I went for a dish called Pad Ped Yang from the hot plate section of the menu with a coconut rice. The dish had duck(cooked beautifully) and veggies. There wasn’t as much flavour to the dish as I’d hoped but was still enjoyable. Service was quick and friendly. The restaurant itself was very busy for mid week(always a good sign) and I loved the Photos of Thailand on the walls. Loved the sign in the toilet door too(see photo). It made me feel like I was in Thailand again with the poorly translated signs I’ll go back to the restaurant and try a fish dish or curry next time I think.

When I took that first bite of their abso-freakin-lutely delicious spicy chicken wings, the same thought I had at Bar Idda and 400 Gradi went through my mind and it was why on god’s earth had I waited so long to try this place especially since it’s in my neck of the woods?! Disappointing Kev. Really disappointing! I went there with a few mates a couple of weeks ago for dinner prior to getting shit-faced and, being a Saturday night, the place was packed to the rafters. They managed to fit us in though, which was great. Now, don’t expect to head there and enjoy all the space in the world between yours and the next table. The place is small and squeeshy. We ordered a couple of entrees — spring rolls, wings(so good!), deep fried pork wonton, chicken satay skewers(that satay sauce was great) and mains(the pad thai, thai red curry duck and a chicken and veggies dish plus steamed rice. They were all really really good, authentic with lots of flavour and the portion sizes were pretty big as well since we were all quite full after. I managed to fit one of their coconut ice cream with thai fruits in as well though — I had too! I like Mai Thai, it’s not bad but Thai on Street wins the battle anyday(or night…) for me though. I highly recommend it. Just make sure you book first.

This place is great! I’ve had the green curry several times and tried a few other dishes and never been disappointed. It’s good value, the service is fast and it’s the best Thai on Lygon st in my opinion.

Solid thai food. Just finished a takeaway Pad Ki Mao. Beautiful balance. Right amount of basil. A healthy dose of protein, lots of veggies. Beautiful amount of chili. Can’t wait to go back and try the rest of the menu!

Totally the underdog of Lygon Thai food. Thai on Street is delish and fast! The place is a bit small, but I’d like to think of it as intimate. It’s a step up from Thaila Thai, 2 doors down. They even have a FULL vegetarian menu! The curries and the pad thai are totally reliable and they even serve up papaya salad! Their take-away is even better because it’s quick and easy! I do with the curries had a bit more of a kick(I like it hot) but I won’t hold it against them because they are some of the most flavourful that I’ve had. The portions are massive. We had 6 of us(4 guys) and ordered 3 plates and all had to be wheelbarrowed out. K, now I’m salivating just writing this…
