Brilliant! Local take out spot, and it’s exactly how you want your take-away local spot to be. Family cooking, cheap, friendly service, big portions and lots of it! It comes out piping hot!

Singh’s is cheap and good, but not great… except the naan which is huge and amazing!

Singh’s has been a very good Indian takeway shop for a very long time! The prices are low and the food is good quality. My recommendations are the saag lamb, saag paneer, plain naan, malai kofta and tandoori chicken drumsticks. I also appreciate the cute little salads they do which make the meals that bit nicer. My 2.5 year old twin boys eat the butter chicken and gorge themselves on the naan bread so it is food which is kid-friendly as well. Occasionally they change the type of spices they use(Ive spoken to the staff about this) and thus«hot» can become torrid and«mild» becomes hot — but then that only lasts for a few weeks until they get the balance right again. What I like most about Singh’s however are the staff — they are all absolutely lovely people without exception. Ive always found them to be very friendly and talkative and they always give me a free pappadam if I have to wait in the shop. I was also particularly impressed when one of them offered to carry my food to my car for me in pouring rain as I needed both hands to help my kids accross the road at peak hour!!! TIP: when ordering from Singh’s, order 3 naan breads rather than just one. This way you have a few spares in the fridge for the next few days!

Up until about a year or two ago I would’ve sung the virtues of Singh’s from the rooftops of East Brunswick but something has changed. They used to be hands down, the best Indian take away in Melbourne. But they’ve now taken on this attitude of mediocrity and the standard of food here has been in steady decline for a while now. I stopped in yesterday for a snack and the dude pulled that ‘Is that all you’re gonna order’ face and proceeded to make a show of what a hassle it was to whip up my order — the service is in decline also. The tandoori chicken used to be one of my favourite snacks on the way home, but the crap I got yesterday was very chewy and one of the pieces had an unnatural growth inside it. I had to throw it out and now I feel sick even thinking about it. How this place has gone so far off the rails is beyond me. I hope they can bring it back from the brink, ’cause I’m struggling to find anything better in the area.
