A consistent good breaky yummmmmm Best vegie omelette in Melbourne, perfectly layered with Halloumi cheese, spinach, pumpkins, zucchini & a basil nut paste. It’s not on there standard menu but is on the specials menu. Coffe is good. A must try when in BRUNSWICK.

Ive caught the tram past this place at least 100 times and kept saying I should try it so this morning we did and boy am I glad. The waiter who served us was friendly and efficient. Our drinks came exceptionally fast and my partners orange juice was freshly squeezed and full of flavour. But when the over sized plates arrived with our breakfast came out, I became ravenous. My eggs benedict looked beautiful on the plate. The sauce may have looked a little thin but the taste was spot on. An ample supply of fried leg ham made it an irresistible meal. The eggs perfectly poached, as one would expect from a venue of the same name. After I finished eating I sat back and marveled at how utterly delicious the meal was. Ive been to a few places around here now and while not the cheapest Eggs Benedict, at $ 14 it was very well priced, more than ample as a breakfast and the staff well lovelly to deal with(I suspect it was a mother and son). Im looking forward to coming again when its a little warmer to sit outside, but I WILL be back. I think Ive found my new favourite café for sundays

Been going to this place since I was a kid, now I’ve grown up I go with my mates who also love this place. The staff know me by name and even when I call then know my order and name! Best place to get a late breaky or a sandwich before work. Big breakfast, orange juice and a mocha is the way to go I reckon!

I think if Poached ever shut down our office would cease to function on Fridays. We’ve been going there every week for as long as I can remember to get the super tasty Ewing toasted turkish rolls. Everything on the menu is yum. The wraps are tasty little bundles of healthy goodness. A «throw in a bit of everything» takeaway salad is always fun and interesting. Pure evil muffins(evil in that you want more of them!). I’ve only had breakfast there a couple of times(who is up early enough for breakfast on weekends?) but loved it. They get very busy on weekend mornings, they must be doing something right :) Very friendly staff. Delicious coffee. Highly recommended.

Do yourself a favor, get the French toast. No. Stop. Do not ask me about the other dishes. Do not entertain the other dishes. Get the French toast. I will not say it again The coffee is solid if you need to was down your French toast, because that’s is what you will be eating.

If you are ever up the ‘other’ end of Lygon St around lunch time, Poached is one place you should look into! Pros * Fast Fast service * The food is always fresh, it is almost always made whilst you wait * The regular menu has a great selection and the blackboard is always changing * They do takeaway! Cons * There isn’t many outside seats * When they get really busy, things tend to slow down(as they always will when you make everything to order) just be paitent and grab a fresh juice(get them to add some ginger) and relax You must try the Ewing but don’t forget to ask for extra bacon, everything is better with bacon

Poached serves up great food that’s very reasonably priced. Delish coffee too but what really got me was how attentive the service was despite a very busy and packed lunch service. All the wait staff were smiling and really took the time to pay you a little more attention that you’d normally expect from a busy inner city café. None of the expected Hipster aloofness you might expect from this part of town either. Food and coffee didn’t take long to arrive from order, in fact the OJ I ordered came in under two minutes, freshly squeezed. You know this from the huge pile of peeled oranges behind the food display at the counter. I had the omelette with chorizo, tomatoes, feta and rocket which was sever with sliced white sourdough. It was done to perfection. The layout is pretty good as they clearly aren’t trying to cram tables beside each other so while it’s full, there’s plenty of space between tables so you don’t have to hear all the intimate details of conversation from the next table. But this place does get a little noisy as expected from a well loved café.

There are so many bloody cafes in East Brunswick now, it’s difficult to choose. Poached separates itself from the pack by sticking to a very simple formula. Having been in this spot for a lot longer than most of the cafes around today, Poached do that kind of ‘90s style café thing and they do it well. What I mean is that they serve the classics — eggs Benedict, actually any kind of eggs really — and don’t fuck around too much with trying to reinvent the wheel. They also understand customer service and really put the effort in to make the experience, be it just a coffee or full lunch, as enjoyable as possible. This means a lot to me and further separates Poached from its newly minted neighbours. They have a small street table area and the inside is pretty spacious, if a little heavy on atmospheric noise at times. Their coffee is great, the service is always good. I’d love it if I could say the same for all the cafes on the strip.

Where I sit on Poached is a tricky one to answer. Having lived in Brunswick East for a long time, Poached was my go-to and also my favourite breakfast place. Their coffee was good, Their staff were friendly. And their menu does exactly what is says on the tin with classics such as Eggs Benedict and Eggs Florentine serves on Turkish bread. It was simple but definitely cooked really well. Having gone back a few months ago, the food didn’t measure up to its high standards it had set in the past(it was still good but not the standout of yesteryear). If might have just been an off day or something but the nostalgia of Poached was somewhat lost. I’m wavering between a 3 and a 4 star rating but I think I have to go on my last visit. I would definitely go here again if I lived closer. So try it for yourself.

Melburnians have this thing with poached eggs. Every brunch place always has five dishes that are poached eggs with something. I swear that’s where Poached got its name from… I actually don’t know if that’s true, but likely. I like Poached. They have friendly staff that greet you and take your order in a timely fashion. The coffee is good. The food is good. Although the food isn’t anything amazing, it is done well and is reasonably price. Luckily, their eggs are poached perfectly with a bit of yolk running when you cut it open. Although there is some stiff competition out there, I return to Poached because they seem to get everything right from coffee, food, and service. You can’t really ask for more from your brunch place(I’m sure you can). Perhaps I don’t ask for much, but I can appreciate a smile and a thank you.

Sitting quietly beside Sugardough one would forgiven for thinking this café would suffer against such stiff competition. But there always appear to be equal numbers dispersed between the two. Perhaps it’s the variation of menu, Poached, as the name implies, has many egg based breakfast and lunch dishes, and less of the breads offered elsewhere. The couched seating along the side suit families, young and old alike, and Saturdays would be the busiest of mornings. The coffee is above average, but more choose to stay for a meal than grab a takeaway.

Without beating around the bush, Poached is your average breakfast/lunch café. You’ll get a good coffee, your eggs will be made the way you want them and you’ll get all the usual sides with those eggs. There’s nothing terribly fancy about the way the place looks, but it’s clean and presentable and the service is friendly and down-to-earth. I don’t mean to paint a bad picture at all. On the contrary, the Poached way is very refreshing in an area where each new café that opens is trying to out-do the next by being so hip it’s painful. These guys just want to make sure you get a good feed, that you get it without having to wait too long, and that you don’t pay too much for it. There are a few tables outside on the pavement, which are hard to get on busy weekends, but this is a great place to sit to enjoy the weather and soak up the bustling Lygon Street atmosphere. Brunswick East needs more unpretentious places like this. I, for one, am really glad Poached is here.
