FAT Fried & Tasty

This was my second trip to Fried and Tasty. I will start by saying that if you are looking for a dirty dirty hangover meal then this is the place. Portions are huge and it is greasy hot chicken. Their gravy is possibly the best thing I have had in a long time but the chicken I found just a little too greasy for my liking. I felt like I needed a detox after my lunch and was lethargic all day. I needed something a little fresher on the menu to break up all the evil that is fried chicken. The service was fantastic and they told us it would take a little longer due to the fact they were cooking a fresh batch. I saw this as great service. The place was clean and my only real gripe was that it was a little too decadent for my precious palate!

I got a take away skinny wrap which was delicious and full filling. My amigos got burgers and fried chicken, I’d say they enjoyed it, as the room was completely silent when consuming this FAT chicken.

FAT was much better than I expected! I’m pretty fussy when it comes to the whole fried chicken experience & they did not let me down.
All of the fried chicken options comes with one side included — we ordered original fried chicken + fries & hot wings + mac & cheese & a gravy boat to dip our fries — so, all the healthy options. The original was three generous pieces of chicken (breast & thigh) & we got 6 spicy whole wings (wing + drum).
The coating was really tasty for both flavours with a good level of spice for the hot wings & the chicken inside was succulent & perfect. The fries were awesome — whatever seasoning they have is excellent (but may be a bit salty for some). The Mac & cheese was good — initially I thought the flavour was lacking but that may have just been compared to all the big chicken flavours.
Apart from fried chicken FAT do a solid range of burgers & there are a few salads on the menu (coleslaw, potato salad, chop salad), but this is a fast food joint at the end of the day so don’t arrive expecting a healthy experience! It’s called fried & tasty after all!
I’ll be eating salads for the next year but next time I need a fast food hit I know where I’m headed!

Meeting up with my friend and her messy child for a very late lunch (I spent an hour waiting for her at padre), we decided on this place since it was near hers, and fried chicken is always a good idea.
Staff were friendly as we walked in, and we quickly ordered. The staff were really good with us, especially the kid, aka, ‘grub’. With the broken bottle, cracker crumbs everywhere, they had a lot more patients then I would have.
Quite a big venue and it can get very loud.
The chicken was great. Good flavour, moist and juicy. Nice sized serve. My friend really enjoyed her burger and shake, it disappeared pretty damn quick actually.
I’ll definitely be going back after the great and patient service and delicious fried chicken. The only reason you should even need is fried chicken.

Walking in on Saturday night, I couldn’t help but think of Jackie D’s review about how she was dreading the fact that this place was opening around the corner from her house. Well, I know I’m struggling to stay away from it. Granted, it took me some time to try it (which is a trend for me when it comes to places in my hood!) but I am having to try very hard to not grab a burger almost every night — the Hot Hot is my favourite!
Located at the corner of Lygon and Victoria Sts, FAT is right next door to me and I mean literally! I’ve had the double double and the hot hot burgers so far and they were good. Their tenders are not bad either and the poutine is a must-​try. They are very generous with the portion sizes for their chips so I would think twice about how hungry you really are prior to upgrading.
If you are ever in the area, check it out. Mr Wilkinson is also not far away so make sure you grab a drink there after. It’ll be fun!
My next stop will be to grab one of their delicious thick shakes! I’m thinking Salted Caramel…

Very ordinary. Trying really hard to be like Belles Chicken but failing. Ordered BBQ wings and got BBQ ribs. Half as much chicken with twice the bone. My partner just got the fried chicken. Said it was just like eating oil. Save your money and go somewhere nicer

I have been dreading the opening of FAT since I saw its construction around the corner from my house many months ago. How am I supposed to diet with such deliciousness only mere minutes away?!
I went along on opening night and was disappointed with the meal and the lengthy wait, HOWEVER I have just given it a second chance and was blown away! I think they have overcome their first week jitters (and overwhelming response from the supportive locals) and have set their stride to be a great local burger place.
The Brunswick Burger (with bacon, beetroot and other yumminess) is definitely something I will be trying/​inhaling again, and their chips are guaranteed to cure even the scariest of hangovers.
This is a great destination for a hump day meal where you don’t quite have the energy to cook or to eat somewhere to fancy.
