I love Café Romantica gelato. Supposedly has one of the best gelato in town, I hear. My favourite gelato rose, mango, azurro and coconut. Mix rose and chocolate, you get a Turkish delight treat. What’s good is the place is open 24 hours a day, so if your feeling peckish late night you can drop by. The reason why I gave it 3 stars instead of 5 is because i the only thing I like about Romantica the gelato and tiramisu there. If I was a lot more impressed with the food on the menu and the service I’d give higher rating. Even though it says open 24 hours, if you do drop in odd hours like 3am you may find its closed.

This place is simply great. They do all sorts of amazing Italian food to eat in, or to take away. We tend to take away as they do a good delivery service and we live close by. We order the gluten free pizza, and they are amazing(Normal pizzas are even better Im told). The GF base is always solid, and not crumbly like other places. They are very sensitive to needs of us Glutards, and they also do a great GF beer from a local brewer. I highly recommend these guys for an early evening snack, through to a very late night post drinking session… they’re open to 3am, I mean, thats nuts. Grace and the staff are very friendly and the food always come out on time.

I can remember going to Café Romantica for a pizza at 3am over 10 years ago when I used to go to the Parkview Hotel(back when it was a good pub). The pub shut at 3am and Café Romantica was on the way home. I cant remember for the life of me whether their pizzas were any good back then or not — but thats not the issue. The point is that their pizza is good now, in 2013! I hadnt been there in nearly 10 years until last week when I finished a meeting at about 11pm and needed something to eat for dinner. I couldnt find anywhere open and then a light bulb switched on in my brain: «What about that Café Romantica place?» I went in and it was like going into that pub on Cheers! It was friendly, warm and relaxing! I almost felt like the Cheers themesong was going to start playing when I walked in! I ordered a pizza and some icecream(they have nice Italian icecream) and it was all very cheap! I also got talking to the woman who owns the place(I assume thats Grace?) and I found her to be delightful! Good food and good service. I will be going back!

Every neighbourhood needs a very-late night food service, and Café Romantica is the local Brunswick provider of said service. The menu is huge and covers both regular and gourmet pizza(including vegan, if that’s your thing), pasta, foccacias, salads, soup, burgers, chips, garlic bread, deserts, drinks(including alcohol, which they’re licensed to deliver until 11pm), steak, chicken, parmigiana(veal and chicken) and even a cheese platter, if that’s what you’re craving in the wee hours of the morning. They even cater to food intolerances with gluten free options. The food is better than your average all night eatery, and they deliver locally until 3am(last orders accepted around 2am), albeit with a relatively pricey minimum order requirement of $ 25. The pizza is of the moderately thin crusted variety, but is sturdy and holds the toppings with ease. It’s not greasy, and is satisfying both in sobriety and inebriation. Romantica’s is the best 24 hour takeaway joint I’ve discovered so far, so if you’re peckish and in the area it’ll be worth your while to pop in.

24-hour liquor license? Yes please! There are very few establishments that have a 24-hour liquor license. I used to be around the corner from Café Romantica so once the booze ran dry and people started leaving, the after party moved here. With a full bar that can be accessed anytime of day, it was definitely a great place to have around. The best part it wasn’t filled with seedy people — only a bunch of older Italian men. Café Romantica offers simple Italian dishes such as pizzas and pasta at reasonable prices($ 16). I’ve come here on a few occasions to be greeted by their friendly server and not as cheerful owner, Grace(but this is what makes her cool), and just had a simple, but good experience. At least they put up with drunken patrons like us. Although the food isn’t spectacular, they do it well and you always feel welcome here.

Whenever I discover an eatery that stays open 24 hours a day, I get all happy and high on the notion that there is a place that will serve me food whenever I want it, anytime of the day or night. It just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, you know, like feeling loved. So it was with great joy and greedy open arms that I welcomed Café Romantica into the hood. These romantics serve up some fine pizza, of the classic and gourmet varieties. But they don’t stop there. They have a long menu of meat and poultry dishes, soups, pastas, seafood, salads, burgers, snacks and desserts. Prices are so reasonable considering that these guys never sleep so that we can have our tummies loved up in all the right ways at all the wrong times. And if you’re not in love yet, they also serve alcoholic drinks 24 hours a day. Oh yeah, that’s what I call romance.

Café Romantica does Italian food really well and they are open 24 hours, which is a great combination. Grace is a really friendly host and Tony is a highly skilled pizza maker. I haven’t been there in a while but Tony’s special pizza is always worth checking out. Last time it was a tandoori chicken special with yoghurt that was delicious. The menu itself is quite large and the things I think they do best(besides the pizzas) are the Italian classics: spaghetti Bolognese and lasagna. I’ve never had a bad meal here and would definitely be back here after many drunken nights out if I still lived in Brunswick. They are licensed and you can continue your party here if you so wish after hours. They also do good coffee if you’ve had a wee bit too much to drink. There are certainly cheaper Italian places out there but Romantica is a good haunt and an inviting place to be.
