Our 3rd visit here unfortunately each time its been worst than the previous so we have done our dash If you go on a saturday its double bookings either 6pm or after 8. we have experience both. the early booking was rushed the later our table wasnt reset or ready so last night we did the an early table of 4. Our side order of Greek salad to accompany our mains arrived before entrees. why?.. then 2 of the 4 entrees arrived for myself and my partner but our guests entrees did not. felt awkward starting and eating infront of them however we had to. Then my main arrived before our friends we called the waiter over. Next their mains arrived so they started i had already finished my main by now and then to top it off their entrees turned up half way though their mains. A complete muck up and no room on the table for a hugh bread and dips starter platter which was left untouched and a waste of $ 18 After we had all finished mains our plates sat infront of us as we chatted for half an hour unnoticed as the 8 pm diners started arriving and the early diners were standing in line trying to pay. I gave up trying to get the attention of any wait staff. We all wanted a Greek dessert and coffee so we waited a bit longer and to be honest decided we would go elsewhere for coffee and my partner tried to pay the $ 280 i sat feeling underwhelmed with the evening the experience and the quality if the food. The quanity wasnt an issue as i saw high amounts left on all the plates. The dips were tasteless according to our friends the Moussaka was mushy and overcooked our mixed seafood king George Whiting nice the Calamari overfried the potatoes greasy. The Greek salad average you cant really get than wrong The Dolmandes nice The Saganaki excellent. Our Baked Feta delish The Meatballs tasty. So in short excellent entrees Average to disappointing Mains and no desserts as we never got asked if we wanted any. The wine waiter was quick to serve 2 bottles of sparking waters and our 2 bottles of wine. As we were about to leave the table was finally cleared another junior waiter and i say junior only because i sat in amazement as he placed one plate on top of another 4 high complete with food. Obviously no training given. We left for dessert and coffee up to North Adelaide feeling unloved and disappointed. As patrons that eat out alot i think the restaurant needs to implement better training for the food runners and maybe focus on the quality of the food rather than the size of the servings. Personally a good meal for me isnt the result of wrapping half of it up in tinfoil for lunch tomorrow. The presentation and the food was wow look at the size rather than wow how delicious Maybe a great place for big table work functions or birthdays but not if your wanting a nice night out attentive service and quality over quantity.

We decided to check out this restaurant since it was close to home. When we arrived, our table was double booked. So we were seated outside. The table was wiped off quickly and left wet and dirty. The menu was very poorly presented and had a range of almost identical, very expensive dishes. The food did look and smell great but we never got to try any. We sat for 30 minutes without anyone taking our order, bringing us drinks or even some water. A nearby waiter evidently heard us remarking that it was taking a long time but continued to ignore us. Instead, serving customers that had just arrived. So we left. Do yourself a favour and dine somewhere else. This place is a crumbling, unprofessional mess.

Quite simply — An Amateur, incompetent, and embarrassing excuse for a restaurant. I dined here on 17th October and I should have taken the advice of others and booked elsewhere. Firstly we arrived and the table was set with just a knife. We were met by a waiter who appeared to have been drinking– this was confirmed through the night when he believed it’s ok to be shoving customers to ask if they want a drink. When asked about the lack of cutlery and glassware, another waiter stated they had run out(how can a restaurant run out if cutlery and glasses). Over the next hour, the odd glass and fork would make it’s way to the table. Unfortunately, this was not a huge issue as food took over 2 hours to arrive. When a waiter was asked about the wait, he simply stated that in his opinion Wednesday nights were the best to dine out. The kids table received there food after 90 minutes, beside one child who had to wait an additional hour for one poorly cooked lamb chop priced at $ 32. Finally the food– the whole party agreed they they had never eaten food that was so salty and poorly cooked. The so called huge platters at approx $ 90 are nothing more than a heaped pile of frozen potatoes that are briefly deep fried, topped with crumbed, oily, soggy fried fish and a small amount of salty meat that has been cooked to within an inch of its life. Never before have I endured such terrible food and amateurish cooking, where salt was the only component. It’s fair to say we won’t be returning– and I warn others not to make the same mistake, which left us empty-pocketed and at risk of a salt induced heart condition. I really hope that this is not a reflection of the standard of Adelaide restaurants, it’s a sad day in SA if it is.

Brilliant. Hubby and the kids ordered 4 starters to share and had troubles finishing, despite everything tasting amazing. Highly recommend the grilled King prawns and the meatballs

Our group really enjoyed this restaurant! We visited on a Sunday night and the restaurant was nearly full, which we took as a good sign. We ordered a range of mezzes as shared entrée. The pita bread is amazing — best I’ve ever had. Not your usual store bought stuff. Just a tip though that every item we ordered came with bread(plus we ordered the bread and dips) so it’s very easy to fill up on it and not have enough room for the other delicious food. All the mezzes were excellent(love the meatballs with the feta inside) and very generous serves. We had ordered 3 mains between the 6 of us to share having seen the size of the meals going out and this was a good decision. You get two huge skewers of meat for the lamb and chicken souvlaki dish, the pork chops are enormous, plus a mound of potatoes and more bread with each dish. The boys managed to demolish it all but I had to tap out after a few pieces of each! Great flavours too, some of the best Greek I’ve had in Adelaide. Keen to return and try the sharing platters too!

Only 4 reviews? I can’t believe it! :O After trying MANY different Greek restaurants and devouring my families Greek food, you could say my expectations are sky high when it comes to Greek cuisine. Fortunately, Taverna lived up to every expectation I had. Flavoursome, hearty, traditional, full servings of Greek dishes made with the same love my grandmother puts into her food. and at the end of the day, that’s what I have come to appreciate when trying Greek food! The prices do come to mind when I think about Taverna, however at the end of the day you are paying for great quality and huge servings of glorious Greek food. Perfect for group’s, Taverna offers several different banquets for large groups to try. We had the mixed banquet and it was to die for. A real taste of Greece on your fork! If you ever have trouble deciding what to order, the staff will gladly help and the friendly and comfortable atmosphere makes for the perfect night out. I’ll keep coming back, no doubt!

I finally made it to the Taverna Greek Psistaria and it was well worth it. I wish I had been there before. The staff are really friendly. the menu is ALL greek food. We started with the Saganaki cheese(YUM) then had seafood and meat platters. HUGE servings of such tasty food. If you like fresh tasty meat and seafood just go. It’s not far from the city and well worth that little trip

Yes it is over priced but the food is wonderful and we ordered the seafood plater worth $ 90 but it was enough for 4 people even had to leave some of the chips. Service was friendly but sometimes was found wanting. If you like greek food then you must try it.

I pass here all the time and never dare to enter until a fateful night when I sampled some great Greek Cuisine here. The service was very accommodating toward us, seating us very quickly and being very friendly. It’s a cool and relaxed atmosphere, and there’s real value in the servings. The Skara is only for the hearty meat lovers, beautifully cooked lamb, chicken, pork, with a side of salad, pita, and a dash of brilliance.

OPA. I actually don’t like dining out Greek too often, just because nothing beats my very own Greek mamas cooking. However, there are a select few places serving Greek cuisine that I stand by and will happily devour at any given time of the week. Luckily, Taverna is one of these places. You might be a little alarmed at the price of some of the dishes here but rest a sure that in true Greek fashion two people could happily eat from one Taverna sized meal. Plus many of the dishes here are tender meats with vibrant Mediterranean flavours. They also make the best patates(chips) to serve along side your meal. The décor here has always been very blue and white, with a typical Greek island feel. Unfortunately Taverna closes its doors for months at a time, while the owners take a well earned break and visit the motherland. They are also moving premises and I can’t yet comment on the new whereabouts. Additionally, pleased be advised that Taverna has a sister restaurant called Kefi, which is located on Tapleys Hill Road. Definitely just as Greco-licious.
