I wondered into Smiggle, a brightly coloured, bright and curious little stationary shop in the Broadway shopping complex. The multicoloured store front mixed with the highly child like and playful name made me cautious to enter at all, it gave off an energy of whimsical free fall that I am not accustomed to. Shouting, «For Science!» I charged in, braving the technicolour rainbow of diaries and erasers that lined the walls. All your basic stationary; rulers, pencils, pens, rubbers, diaries, pencil cases and even back packs. All in a myriad of colours, vibrant and shiny, the type of stationary that screamed, ‘Yes, I’m for your work, but let’s make work fun!‘ Needless to say I didn’t buy anything, there’s enough fun in my life without it being forced down my throat by a purple dinosaur that has the power to erase your spelling errors. This is not to say that I didn’t appreciate the store for what it was. Granted, I am not the target, but their niche market and affordable prices make for a cutesy little gift for an eleven year old, should they wish to make their work fun.
