Pilates is one of those things that I’ve said I would do for I’m no longer sure how long. Then, earlier this year, Studio Pilates opened a city studio and suddenly the location and price was right. I finally prioritised my goal of practicing pilates on a regular basis. Located across the road from Central Station, it couldn’t be easier to get to and the studio, being new, is fresh and crisp. Although I’m told by instructors some of the lunch time and after work classes are full, I personally am yet to attend a class with more than three students. This works perfectly for me as I feel I get the best out of the class this way as the 1:1 attention from the instructor is higher. The staff on duty have always been exceptionally friendly and I’ve enjoyed(and appreciated) the small gestures such as a text message to let me know I don’t have another class yet booked. The beauty of Studio Pilates is, though, that you can book all your classes online. Bonus Points! What I wasn’t expecting when I had my first class at Studio was that the class, although with supervision from the instructor, is largely directed by a video playing on plasma screens around the room. This can get a little distracting at times as you’re arching your neck to see the movement on the TV screen while lying on the reformer machine. However, a few classes in and I’m getting the hang of it all and relying on the video less. Don’t stress — the instructor is there at all times and provides directions or adjustments to each pose for you. Having just signed up to their 30 day challenge, I’m looking forward to getting the hang of it a lot more quickly.
