Great great breakfast! I wish we had this in the US.

Yeah so they do acai bowls. But no acai bowl is worth the prices charged here, or being snooted at by the staff every time. Giving up.

I love Kiss the Berry! In my opinion, these guys provide the best and most interesting acai bowls in the CBD. Staff are great and obviously enjoy working there. They always have new, cool specials and the servings are super generous(plus you can really pig out with a large serve for about $ 2 extra). Today I tried the warm pear and rhubarb bowl. It was a traditional Frozen acai bowl topped with granola, toasted hazelnuts, pear slices and warm stewed rhubarb. I really dug the tartness of the rhubarb with the not-too-sweet from acai. I’ve never had a bad bowl from KTB. My only criticism is that it isn’t close enough to my work!

It took me a while to buy into the Acai bowl craze but once I did, I was hooked. My first Acai bowl was at Kiss The Berry, the self-proclaimed Acai specialists. The founders started selling them at the markets before opening their first store in the Brisbane CBD. It began as a pop-up on Adelaide St before moving to a more permanent premises around the corner on Creek St, dangerously close to my work. They’ve also recently opened another store at South Bank and I wouldn’t be surprised to see more eventually pop up around the place given how popular they are! They specialise in Acai Bowls(frozen acai purée usually blended with fruit and liquid to a thick and spoonable consistency, topped with more fruit, something crunchy and sometimes yoghurt) and smoothies. Prices range from $ 9.50-$ 12 for a regular sized bowl or $ 11 – 14.50 for a large bowl — I find the regular sized bowl is entirely filling enough for me. Seriously delicious and not overly sweet — I see them as an alternative to plain yoghurt and fruit or a healthier dessert but easily filling enough to constitute a light meal. The Brisbane CBD store is tiny with only a long bench seat at the back and a higher bench with stools at the front. I suggest that you grab your bowl to go and head over to Post Office Square or Anzac Square to enjoy your acai deliciousness. The oversized menu is clearly displayed behind the counter and includes the range of standard bowls, smoothies, available add-ins and seasonal specials. From the standard menu, I’m a fan of the Original Bowl and the Berry Good Low Sugar Bowl. The new Autumn menu came out and I can highly recommend the Apple Crumble Bowl which has acai, apple, banana, cinnamon and apple juice as the blend with handmade granola, coconut yoghurt, coconut flakes and stewed apple as the toppings. There was no skimping on toppings in this bowl — I had to dig deep to reach the acai! My friend chose the Get Figgy With It Bowl(sidenote: why not Gettin’ Figgy Wit’ It???) which was a less sweet blend of acai, banana, figs, coconut sugar and coconut water topped with activated buckinis(activated toasted/dehydrated buckwheat), banana, coconut and figs. While we loved the buckinis, we were a bit disappointed by the small amount of fig on top. I’ve sampled a few Acai bowls around the place(they’re everywhere!) but Kiss The Berry remains my favourite store to get them from for their value, taste and flavour combinations. Not to say other places don’t do great versions but I’ve found them more expensive and the quality(flavour, melting time, toppings) isn’t as good.

Some of my fav Unilocalers have been raving about this place so I wanted to stop by and have a taste for myself. I’ve had acai before but not in a Acai Berry Bowl. There was a wait when we came in shortly after 1pm in the afternoon. It seemed everyone was stopping by to include this with their lunch or make it their lunch! The staff were friendly and helped us as we were first timers. The told us about how acai is a berry that comes from the Amazon in Brazil. My friend and I decided to share the original Acai Berry bowl which was more than enough for both of us.(Disclaimer: we had just eaten lunch so this was our dessert.) We both enjoyed it but thought it was a bit heavy on the granola and could have included more acai! It does taste like a sorbet but a bit more watered down. The strawberries and bananas with chai seeds and honey made the entire bowl even yummier and tasted great. This was a great concoction and I ate it until the last bite. The venue is beautiful and gives off an interesting vibe… it’s fun and I love the clean colors and streamlined design with white backslash. The waiting area has bright pillows and some reading material while you wait for your special concoction but then there is the purple lighting in the front and club like music. I am not sure what the exact message they want to come across is coming off as I was a little confused myself. The prices are a bit on the high side of things so I wouldn’t order one every day but this would be a great boost when you’re having a sluggish day or need a pick me up. Really cool, unique, trend setting place that just shows what kind of place Brisbane is turning into!

The last time I had Kiss the Berry(a day when they set up shop at Odyssey Coffee), I ordered one of their famous Acai Berry bowls. That was also the day my boyfriend eventually sternly said in the car, «Can you please just stop talking. Seriously. For like 10 mins.» Lesson learnt. Acai berries have some weird-o affect on me and I end up acting like I’ve taken some super strength stimulant that leaves me wound tighter than an Energiser Bunny that just goes and goes and goes. You get the drift. So, after my Pilates class this week, I noticed the girls new and shiny store was a short stroll from the studio and on route to my next destination. I stopped in and while I bypassed a Acai bowl, I did order their cacoa and date smoothie. The setting of their store is stunning. It’s crisp, white and fresh with accents of purple around the store. It really feels like you’re in someone’s kitchen. My smoothie was the psuedo-meal I needed but, personally, I’m not a fan of apple juice or sweet juices in my smoothies and I think this may have. It was certainly sweeter than I’m used to or prefer. They’re also brewing Odyssey Project coffee(a personal favourite) and without doubt I’ll be back to try a few more menu items.

Kiss The Berry(KTB) is at the Eagle Farm Markets every Sunday and they really are popular! For $ 10 you get a large bowl which is more than enough — I couldn’t even finish mine. I love the idea and it’s a healthy way to start the day. You get 2 fruit toppings, 1 choice of berries/seeds and then honey on top if you want. I got the original bowl with bananas, strawberries, chia seeds and honey. It was delightful! They accept both cash and card($ 1 surcharge) and there’s ATMs near by if need be. The girls are lovely and have a chain supply process going on so it’s pretty efficient. Whilst it’s on the exy price side of food, it’s worth it as it keeps you full for ages, the girls are locals, the ingredients are local, it’s healthy and they use only fresh produce(I’m just taking a guess, but it looked like the produce they used was from one of the stalls at the markets). All in all it’s worth the visit but make sure you’re either there early or prepared to wait 5 mins as it gets super super busy! But oh so worth it. I take my hat off to the girls that started KTB(one of which went to my school) — they’re true entrepreneurs and only about 20! Kiss the Berry is a very unique pop up shop that’s serving a very interesting take on the«superfood» known as the acai berry. Now whether you believe this fruit is really one of those panaceas for everything that irks you(personally I do), let me tell you something — these bowls of fruity goodness are delicious! It’s a pop up shop so don’t expect any fancy décor but I will say the minimalist set up gave off a very clean and cozy feeling. When you walk in, you’ll want to go straight to the back where you can hear the buzzing blenders. So as the store name suggests, this place is all about the berries. The menu has 2 main choices: bowls and smoothies. I haven’t tried the smoothies yet but I reckon I will at some stage. The bowls consist of the following: a layer of acai + other fruit purée, granola, banana and strawberry slices topped with a sprinkling of flax seed. That’s what they call the Original and the one I’ve liked the most. I’ve tried a couple of the others and they seemed to be variations on the same theme. I work out at the Jetts right across the street and a bowl of berry is the best award after coming off an early morning session. The cool tangy purée meshes beautifully with the sweet crunchiness of the granola. I usually get the large($ 10) and it’s more than enough for a filling hearty breakfast that(gasp!) is actually pretty healthy. The price however is one of the reasons I’m not here every day and probably the only negative I can think of. However, that being said, it’s addictive enough that I have been going about 2 – 3 times each week! I’ve recommended this place to all of my coworkers and friends to try at least once. It’s unique and as a longtime devour-er of acai berries, I’m very happy that there’s now a shop that champions its cause!

After walking past this store a few times this week I thought I would give them a try. From the outside it is a very inviting place with a bench on the left, some comfy chairs spread throughout with some tables that seem a bit too low. The staff is very friendly and appears to be all female, but the clientele seems to be mostly female as well. Going into the shop I was a bit shocked at the prices $ 7.50 for a smoothie, add 50 cents for some added coconut water, and over $ 10 for one of their fruit bowls. I figured I would play it simple and just get the original smoothie. As they were making it I noticed the Apple juice they were using was something you would buy from the Coles or Woolies that was on the store shelves. For this price point I would expect a better quality of juice. The smoothie itself tasted really good. However when I finished it there were big chunks of banana on the bottom that appeared to not have been fully blended. Overall this pop-up store has a very good look, but the execution of some of their products needs to be improved. If they have a premium price, they should have premium products. Very fixable items if they decide to open up a store.
