Fishmongers is just that perfect amount of Bondi — fancy enough to plate up with care, health kick enough to offer brown rice and vege done in a variety of ways yet beachy enough for you to rock up in your togs without anyone batting an eye. And of course tasty enough to compete with Hall Streets best. Though it’s a good 5min walk from the water(hey that’s a long walk when all you want to do I lie on the sand) the fish and chips(what else would you get, really) are worth the trek. And it’s like $ 5 cheaper than all the other joints at the Pavillon. The fish is thin but not over cooked with a nice and crunchy coating of beer batter, served with fantastic hand cut chips which are perfectly imperfect — some chips are super fat, others thin as a Bondi yogi, some a bit of both giving that mix of crunch and pillowy softness to keep you ploughing through the box. Perhaps even better were the wafer thin sweet potato crisps scattered over — OHEMGEE! Just bury me in those crunchy morsels! So make that trek up to Hall Street and back because what more can you ask for than fab fish and chips in a fancy box on one of the worlds best beaches and a few extra dollars in your pocket. Summer made.

A great experience! A restaurant who cooks and presents seafood in a way it deserves. I had the salmon and my girlfriend had prawns, both were really satisfied. Small minus for the tables and chairs, not so comfortable. Not really a problem thou, take your food with u down to the beach and you will have a great evening :)

Bondi Box w/fried fish and tempoora vegetables ***** Wha-whaaat!!! DELISH! Dozen Oysters were above average, but I had better. They don’t serve booze, cos they don’t have a toilet(I guess).

Short walk from the main bondi strip but so worth it! It’s a little pricey but it is in the heart of bondi beach which is completely reasonable. The people here are so friendly and helpful. They recommended the grilled mahi mahi with chips. The chips are amazing with their aioli sauce and the dish was a lot larger than expected. Big thumbs up for the portions and quality of food & service.

Up the hill from the main drag. Counter service was quick and the portions great for the money. No Beer or Wine. My fried prawns were good but the delicate batter refused to stick to the shrimp. Chips were nice. Definitely worth the walk up the hill.

Excellent fish and chippery. The standard hoki fillet and chips is delicious and by as expensive as a lot of places these days. Chips could be a little crisper, but the fish is fantastic and their tartare sauce is excellent.

It’s very clear why this place is top dog for Bondi fish and chips. A cut above a greasy chippie, this place rocks an awesome selection of fresh fish, prawns, squid and specials with an equally nice range of sides from salads and steamed vegies to good old chips. Only these chips are nothing like ones I’ve ever had from a fish & chip shop. As a group we ordered a massive share bowl of them and despite it being a chip mountain, pretty much got through the whole thing. Oh and I also ordered my fish with chips… judge away if you must. Perfect option for a beachside treat be it a healthy one or some gourmet fast food.

Very decent size servings of both fish and steamed vegetables. These guys have great options for those of us who prefer our fish without the added batter or crumbs and our yummy veges instead of fries and bread. The guys behind the counter were lovely and the food came out quickly and beautifully cooked. I’ll be back for sure!

Fish Mongers is the more classy fish n chips joint around Bondi. If your looking for a good feed that feel more like fine dining. We chose the Monger box which comes with 2 pieces of beer battered fish, 6 pieces of Calamari rings, crispy sweet potato chips as well as hand cut chips. This is a lot of food and perfect for sharing. The food is accompanied by tartar sauce. We were feeling hungry so opted to go with an extra dish. Chose the fish taco. This was crispy fish with salsa sauce, crunchy coleslaw, mayo and fried leeks. This dish is something special and a great to accompany fish and chips. This place is great. Service is fast and the food presentation is superb. The staff are smiling and happy to chat about anything you want to know regarding menu options. My favourite fish and chips joint in Bondi.

A bit stingey on the fish(very thin portions)… but fish n chips was good… Steamed veggies were great… A short walk from the hordes of people and a bit quieter, so worth the walk…

I came here for my last supper in Bondi/Sydney. I knew what to expect since I went to the Manly location earlier. Fresh, simple and delicious– just what I was hoping for.

Been a regular since it opened. The first restaurant I came to after the jet lag settled. Craving some local, fresh seafood. As usual I opted for one of the daily board options as it’s never disappointed. The choice was ahi tuna, chili basil salmon and lemon pepper flathead. I chose the flathead with their award winning hand cut chips, garlic aioli and corn. The fish was today’s catch and was exquisite. It’s a delicious fish that needs little seasoning so the lemon pepper was done perfectly. My fave chips and corn were great too. On top if it all the staff are lovely and accommodating. Didn’t even have room for Messina.

Don’t rock up to Fishmongers on Hall Street expecting to find battered fish and chips wrapped in newspaper. What they’re doing is much, much better! For lunch today I sampled the grilled Barramundi with lemon and pepper which was served atop a sizable portion of their hand-cut chips and topped with a sprinkling of crispy sweet potato shreds. If you’re a fish lover, you’ll be more than pleased with this preparation — fork tender and still very juicy. If you pass on the potatoes, you can get your fish with salad or brown rice as well. My only complaint about the place is that there’s no ketchup or mayonnaise visible to dunk your chips in(mine weren’t served with sauce of any kind) and when I asked after it I was offered aioli for $ 1. Call me crazy but I think they could kick down at least the first pot of aioli gratis given the $ 19 price tag on the fish and chips. Still, I’ll be back for the fish!

I got a little too excited when I saw baby octopus on the menu and ended up ordering it even though I had originally wanted fish and chips. On second thought, fish and chips would have been better. The baby octopus was delicious in the first bite but there was almost too much of it and the heavily soy sauced glaze was overbearing. Because of the way they plate the meal the chips end up getting soggy at the bottom of the plate/bowl while you finish the octopus. That being said, the chips were amazing. I can’t say it was terribly, it just want’t to my taste.

The Google listing for this place said they open daily at 12 noon; we got there at 12.10 pm and were told they wouldn’t be open for another 20 minutes. Don’t know if this is a regular occurrence but I thought the delay was a bit slack. Had the grilled salmon with chips($ 18) and the grilled barramundi with salad($ 22). The salmon and chips were good but I found the barramundi a tad overcooked and the salad extremely bland(apart from half a cob of corn it was just leaves, bean sprouts and a couple of chunks of tomato and cucumber — totally do not understand why this should cost $ 4 more than the chips option). Fat Fish in Annandale remains my favourite fish and chip shop in Sydney. That place has a greater variety of fish, better salads and lower prices.

I looked up «Bondi Fish and Chips» expecting to find your typical beer battered fish and chips. When I wandered into Mongers I had a feeling I had missed the mark by a bit, but in the best of ways. What I wound up with was a bowl of meaty hand cut chips and an incredibly nice fillet of grilled barramundi. And it was so much more satisfying than what I’d originally intended for lunch. This classy little café is tucked away a few blocks off Campbell Parade, which may be why the prices were so reasonable for the quality and portion of my lunch. Even though it lacks a beach view, the wide open front wall lets plenty of fresh air circulate through the shop and let you feel like you’re part of the action outside even if you’re sitting at one of the tables in. They’re not licensed, which was a little disappointing for a very brief moment, but I honestly think the beer I originally had in mind might have argued with the fish, so in the end I’m happy to have gone with a lighter lemon/lime and bitters soda and saved the beer for later in the afternoon when I’d earned it along the Coast Walk to Bronte. I’m sure there are plenty of these little gems waiting to be discovered in Bondi and throughout Sydney, and I’m glad this was one of my finds in my afternoon along the coast.

If there was a prize for best hand cut chips in Sydney, Mongers would be a sure win-in for it. The fish here is perfect all the time, and it’s so delicious, and juice. It’s served in this über cool chinese take-away box, and layered with fresh lemons, herbs, and a dipping sauce of aioli. The potato and sweet potato hand cut chip strips are to die for, with generous amounts of rock salt, and fresh herbs, lightly cooked in sunflower oil. Give the salmon, and baby octopus a go, as they’re both amazing. The octopus was very tender, and not tough, it had a light chilli dressing, and was served warm — not a octopus salad meal. I wish every fish and chip place was this awesome!

Catering to a health conscious community who do not put their taste buds on hold, Mongers knows just how we like it. They are fish and chips with a little class. All their dishes come with a nice side-salad and are dressed with fresh herbs and dressings. I love their BBQ baby octopus or their oysters. I recommend you take the meal to go, enjoy it down by the fresh air of the beach or take it home on a chilly day. It tends to get pretty packed, which is a good sign, but at the same time makes for a bit of a tight place to enjoy a meal. Whenever I walk past there are always people chatting outside with their dogs and their kids, waiting to get a take-away meal to enjoy at home. It’s healthy and tastes great so you can enjoy without the guilt. Plus it comes in a cute little box that Thai food comes in sometimes.

Feel like a familiar cardboard box full of fish ‘n’ chips without the post-meal guilt? Head for Fishmonger’s, where you won’t feel like a tool for requesting a side of salad instead of grease-soaked, fried potato bits. Their regular menu is your basic build-your-own-meal type situation; choose battered or grilled fish, calamari or prawns and pair it with one of rice and steamed bok choy, salad and grilled corn on the cob, or tempura veggies. A special of coconut-chilli flat head on a recent visit was a delicious change from my usual salt-and-pepper squid order — the fragrant marinade had infused the fish flesh, and the accompanying Asian-style salad with coriander and bean shoots was given extra crunch with a side of crispy kumara slices. Best of all, it’s BYO, but an even better option is to take your goods down to North Bondi and watch the summer sun set whilst dining on the beachside lawn.

If you’re going to do fish and chips in Bondi then this is the only place to go. You see, the thing that makes Bondi so special is that its a casual mix of super relaxed and über trendy. So when its comes to fish and chips — shouldn’t it be the same? Mongers makes superb fresh fish. Its yummy! There’s not that much place to sit and it can be a bit stuff when it gets busy(which it does) so i suggest getting takeaways. «Fish to go» come in these cute takeaway boxes that feel like a little present you can take home or ideally to Bondi Beach. Prices range between $ 10 — $ 20. I recommend the grilled Trout or Salmon(i can never remember) with salad… The salad comes with a yummy pesto dressing a bbq’d corn on the cob. Healthy, yummy, worth it :)
