If you love Quails that much. The many times we’ve been here over the years … Always NO frills, service nor nice ambiance, chaotic, trying to squeeze through however one thing for sure this place is always packed, I would say close to 90% are Indonesians … It says a lot when most Indonesians are die hard foodies, eating out is part of the community culture, whether family, friends, business, whatever, we’ll find a reason. Quails is their signature dish, also their Thai Steam Fish, hence you must PRE-ORDER unless you are happy with a NO and 2 hours wait … the rest are ordinary Chinese fares, I would not even bother to order. Mind the cleanliness of the restaurant, esp. the small one toilet per gender, small hand basin, most of the times no more soap, always wet, tissues everywhere and smells. If Quails is what you are looking for, this is the place; just choose the sauce, normal, mild or HOT. Enjoy.

First time here was like we were stepping into a cult, or a work meeting we didn’t get the memo for: everyone — and I mean everyone — was eating quail. There were plates and plates of it stacked all around. People tucked into seemingly never ending plates of the stuff. …we didn’t get the quail… I feel like a fraud even reviewing this without trying their main(and before we opened the menu, we thought maybe only) dish, but here goes: Then non-quail dishes were hit and miss. I’m pretty picky about my meat and this was one of those places that seem to bang any old piece into the meals, no matter how fatty or gristly. Other dishes fared better, and having been a few times now it really seems as if it’s pot luck as to the quality of any dish on any given night. The service is not untypical of a busy Chinese restaurant. which is to say it’s barely there. In fact, the lady running the place doesn’t seem shy in yelling to(at?) her staff across the room. I must admit I was scared she might yell at me too a couple of times. One time we were there we witnessed a funny little stoush between a few guys who had handed over their BYO beers for the staff to keep chilled — when they left they thought they were a few beers short. The lady gave as good as she got as they went a few verbal rounds, before the gents gave up on the beer and left. A young worker then bolted out to their car, having dug the beers up from somewhere at the last moment. It made their night, and added a dash of entertainment to ours also. Will go back if only to drink the kool-aid and see what the fuss is around the quail!

Tonight was my first time here and I have quite a few mixed impressions. This place gets really busy(bookings essential) and everyone’s here for one reason, quail. Their specialty here is serving up steaming hot fresh quail, in a sticky and spicy sauce that tastes absolutely delightful(if you like spicy food that is). Their duck is also worth a mention, juicy and tender and oh so crispy skin. It’s not 100% necessary, but it would be wise to prebook the quail as it takes a while to prepare and sells out very easily. The reason I have mixed reviews is that we made a booking for 6:30, arrived a bit late and the owners were not too happy for this as our table was booked for another group at 8. They weren’t saying it directly, but they wanted us to hurry up and get out of there so much, that the quail arrived on the table at 6:45 when there were only 3 people there(out of our 10 person group). Sure we were late and all, but what sort of restaurant only allows a gap for 1.5 hours between bookings. The table service wasn’t as good as it could have been either, we had to physically walk to the counter to ask for more water. Aside from these downfalls, the place is still packed for good reason. Their quail really is worth the visit.
