Whilst this venue can be a little uninviting at first glance, up above it a treasure trove of the best pub food in Ashfield. They do a great steak and their home cut chips are fantastic and addictive! If you’re in Ashfield and looking for a place to get a decent pub meal and a beer, this is the place for you. The service is decent as are the prices. I’ve had weekday lunches here roughly 15 times and it’s been a consistent experience.

This has recently had a menu upgrade. American food now. Still pretty good, fairly priced and family friendly. The best pub food in Ashfield. Not a particularly competitive field at the moment, but still… A win is a win.

The Cocodile Farm Hotel, outside the Ashfield shopping centre, has undergone pretty extensive renovations in the last few years, turning the once shabby dive pub into a modern hotel with a classy, glassy façade. Their Level One restaurant offers $ 10 steaks seven days and is a good(and popular) place for corporate lunches in Ashfield, claiming most of the lunch hour business from Annandale Civic Centre’s employees. There’s a nice balcony coming off the restaurant, great for work Christmas parties, as is the restaurant’s adjoining lounge area. The lounge is also the venue for the Croc’s Monday night trivia with Emily, their bubbly trivia host. The renos here include an impressive giant crocodile, apparently a prop from Crocodile Dundee 2, entombed in a glass tank in the downstairs bar. The walls of the hotel are decorated with plasma screens and lounges sport faux crocodile skin upholstering. The ground floor is your typical front bar and gaming room. Drinks are pretty cheap and they’ve got a decent cocktail list, with cocktails that aren’t short of alcohol. One feature that sits a little uneasily with me is their early morning happy hour from 9am — 10am, but having worked graveyard shifts before, I can understand the wish for a drink when you knock off at 9am. If you’re into gambling, the Croc has heaps of pokies(30ish) and TAB and Keno services, and clearly aims to keep its pokies crowd happy with free soft drinks and heaps of free food for pokies patrons, from sandwiches to salt & pepper squid and other low-brow canapé style foods. This place is open late and has 10 tap beers, as well as a bunch of imported bottled beers. If you’re around, check it out — if only to see if you believe the Crocodile Dundee claim.
