Used to love going here until one afternoon my friend and I bought our usual(mee goreng), a few days later we had food poisoning. Mine lasted over a week and a lost a few kgs. I’d never go to eat here again, it’s a shame because I really loved coming here to eat or even just a pot of tea to share with a friend but that experienced ruined it and I’d never trust them again after that. Plenty of other choices nearby that are tasty, healthy and safe alternatives.

Sometimes have to wait a bit but it’s worth it. Been coming here for over six years and I loves it. Amazing vegan noms. Satay tofu salad is my favorite menu item.

Beautifully arranged, generous dishes of delightful, vegetarian Asian fusion. The service was friendly and efficient. The menu specifies if an item had dairy or gluten. The décor was soothing and comfortable. Great location.

You don’t have to be a vegetarian/vegan to eat here and enjoy a good meal. Zenhouse is one of the reasons why I think it MAYBE(just maybe…) possible for me to turn vegetarian and this is coming from someone who is an absolute carnivore. Vegetarian/vegan food doesn’t need to boring and bland which Zenhouse has amazingly proven! They mainly focus on SFC(soy fibre chicken) and other ‘faux’/”mock’ meats. Zenhouse has an extensive menu which comprises of both Asian and Western cuisines. On their daily menu they got a range of stir fried noodles, soups and yum cha options as well as Western dishes such as salad sandwiches and my favourite chickpea and lentil burger with satay sauce. I have yet to try their yum cha as I’ve seen on recent visits to be very popular menu options especially among large groups. Also I highly recommend the chickpea & lentil burger! Quiet healthy, meat free but yet very filling and tasty. I’ve had this burger for brunch and kept me full for the whole without even needing to eat dinner. Unbelievable! It can get quite busy especially on the weekends and during dinner time but it’s really worth a visit if you want food that is cruelty free and comparably healthier than most other dining options.

I have been a vegetarian/vegan in Adelaide for a long time now, and have never made it to Zenhouse until just recently. I am not sure why, this place is a great little spot for some quick cruelty free dinner. My partner and I ordered the ginger not chicken and the mer goreng. Partner is flexitarian, but I reckon your stock standard meat lover were to come here and order a faux meat meal they might notice the difference but wouldn’t be overly disappointed. The ginger not chicken was DELICIOUS! I picked most of the delicious not chicken bits out of it before my partner had a chance, it was crispy and fried and perfectly seasoned. I love this fake chicken, I think it is the same the use in the SFC. and possibly the salted chicken they sell at everything vegan. But I don’t want to reveal their secrets. The Mee goreng was ok. It was slightly on the sweet side. But not bad, and it was under $ 10 so I don’t feel completely ripped off. The service was okay, I wasn’t expecting much as it was busy. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. The staff weren’t surly but they weren’t outwardly friendly either(because I wouldn’t have noticed if it was inwardly right. ?). The prices are super reasonable. Atmospherically I probably wouldn’t come here for a date, but good for a casual meal or a group of friends.

I recently had a fantastic afternoon at Zen House with a friend from Sydney! He said, as I did — WOW! Food is simply delicious and the range of teas from all over the world is simply mind boggling. My sincere congratulations to the Wong guys for creating a true bench mark in vegetarian/vegan restaurants in this city! I will be back, again and again!

We had a a gathering and Zenhouse was picked by the vegetarian friend. I don’t have anything against vegetarian, but you do need a really good excuse to drag my meat-loving partner to a vego place. When we got there at 6 pm the place was already filling up, and with the rest of the tables reserved. The staff were very friendly and accommodating too, since we had to upgrade our booking from 8 people to 12 at the last minute. Promise it won’t happen again. I only had the mee goreng since I had a late lunch, which is a small serve and probably won’t fill you up you’re hungry. You can double(or triple) the serve for $ 2 extra per serve. And ask to make it spicy if you love your chilli. My mee goreng was good, but was really sweet for some reason, and so were the couple of other mee gorengs at the table. But I will come again to give the other dishes a go since the rest of the meals served at our table, satay, assam curry, green curry, samosas, buns, etc etc, looked and smelled delicious. Looking forward to the next visit :)

Vegan SFC + Satay Sauce = Crazy Delicious Zen House is my favorite for Vegan food downtown. The tea is not too expensive, you can get multiple cups and they’ll refill the water once for free! I believe it’s Thursday when they have the SFC special and you can get it with delicious rice and salad for less than $ 10. They have Laksa on Fridays, if you like that kind of thing. I’d imagine it’s the most Vegan friendly Laksa in town(they will actually make you Laksa always, it’s just only listed on the specials) I also recommend the Mi Goreng. It tastes like sweet and sour hokkien noodle spectacular. Around lunch time it can get a bit busy so try to beat the rush if you want to eat inside!

Hey vegetarians and fellow vegans! This is the place to take your meat loving friends and family to prove them wrong. Kindly of course. Who am I kidding. If you’re anything like me the second you all finish your food, you go in for the«HA! I KNEWYOU’D LIKEIT!» The staff are all super nice. The first time I went there, I was not ready for all of these delicious sounding vegan options on the menu, and trust me, there are A LOT. It took me a good half an hour to decide on the yummy Chickpea & Lentil Burger. The burgers are quite big and filling, but I was determined(and successful!) not to give up! All of my meat loving friends rave over Zenhouse. I’ve also had the vegan SFC(textured soya protein which is seasoned with white pepper, cumin powder and spices) and it’s probably my favourite. If you order it by itself, you basically get a kid’s plate with a small amount. I’d go for the combo and add salad/chips and sauce on the side if you’re hungry. The SFC reminds my friends and I of popcorn chicken. You need to try Zenhouse! I’ll definitely be going back :)

I can’t get enough of Zenhouse. I’m there the same time, every week, for a vegan SFC burger combo(with vegan cheese, without cucumber). Sure, they stuff up my order 25% of the time. But I forgive them. It’s worth it. The place is friendly, relaxing, and the food delicious. ++++ VEGANFRIENDLINESS — Most of the menu is vegan, or veganisable. ++++

One of the teas I had on a visit a while back had me feeling pretty damn relaxed. It’s definitely a favourite of mine for vegan/vegetarian options, shame it’s difficult to get a park without going into the U-park. Cute little set-up, great food, awesome teas, reasonably priced. I’ll certainly be a repeat customer.

In a busy and hectic city, tucked away ever so slightly from the hustle and bustle, sits a serene vegetarian/vegan retreat full of organic food and tasty tea. Zenhouse prides itself on it’s organic products and peaceful atmosphere, offering a healthy haven for busy workers and stressed students. Their magnificent range of tea from around the world is the perfect remedy for a hectic day and their tasty food with eastern and western influences is sure to hit the spot. I am a SFC fan! SFC is one of the dishes and is basically fake popcorn chicken, but so much tastier. You can get it with chips, salad and a dipping sauce or even in a gourmet burger. The satay sauce is the best pick to accompany this one. Even a meat eater will appreciate this one. There is also a mixture of tea inspired fruity mocktails. I suggest trying the Fruit Medley if you have a sweet tooth, it’s bright pink and the fruity floral flavor is orgasmic. I guarantee you will want to come back and try everything on the menu. It’s natural, healthy, and tasty — too good to be true.

Definitely my go to option for a unique meal in the city, Zenhouse is unarguably one of the best vegetarian/vegan restaurants in Adelaide. Food wise, they specialise in faux meat. Chicken made with soya-fibre, mock duck made with tofu. And as an omnivore, I actually find the fake meat surprisingly delicious. The SFC or Soya-FIbre Chicken is my go to meal. I’ll admit when I came here for my first meal I was more than skeptical, but boy was I wrong. I now go there once a month at a minimum. To all self proclaimed meat eaters out there, I suggest going here and ordering something of their ‘Western Delights’ menu, to introduce yourself to guilt free faux meat. Don’t get me wrong I still enjoy real meat, but this is great for something different. For a taste and texture you won’t get anywhere else. They also make a delicious tempeh salad that I often couple with a meal on my more famished days. Zenhouse’s massive selection of tea’s is simply amazing. Almost any tea option or combination you could fathom, even the kind that comes from a ball and opens up into a beautiful flower in the teapot. Zenhouse is an experience that everyone should give a chance to.

Zenhouse specializes in everything ‘faux meat’. It is completely vegetarian but boasts dishes such as ‘Not-shark Fin Soup’ and ‘Sweet & sour not-pork rib king.’ This stuff tastes a lot like meat. I’m a vegetarian, and the idea of eating something that tastes exactly like meat really doesn’t appeal to me. However, if you’re a vegetarian that loves the taste of meat this is the place for you! You really do have to double check that the stuff you’re eating is vegetarian. If you are a meat eater don’t be put off, I have seen even the biggest carnivores enjoy a good feed. The café menu is more to my taste, including a mix of Asian and Western influences, such as Yum cha and burgers(vegetarian obviously). Zenhouse is also a teahouse and has a very large range of teas. The setting is intimate and quiet, but not very large so if you intend to go there with a group I would suggest you book. The price of the meals is great for such a specialized area. You are likely to pay around $ 15 for a main.

A serendipitous discovery on a rainy afternoon shopping with my sister, I was seduced by the stellar array of teas on offer and the vegetarian options at Zenhouse. We were greeted with a warm welcome and were soon chatting with the staff and seated by the window to watch the rain pitter patter. The tea varieties on offer are nothing short of jaw-dropping, and the wafting smell of our pot of peach tea was a delight. Despite being just off of busy Rundle St, it’s a quiet location, and I’ve been back several times since for lunch and of course, tea. I’ve got to admit, «fake» soy meat replacement products normally freak me out, but the«western style» hamburgers are actually pretty tasty. I normally opt for the vege dumplings, however — they’re light, fresh and reasonably priced. I’m not a vegetarian but love anything that’s tasty, and I can definitely recommend a quiet contemplative pit stop next time you’re on Rundle.

I used to go to Zenhouse a lot — especially on Fridays for their Laksa. It was great — excellent broth, spicy(not too milky), egg and delicious bean curd. But then I noticed that over time the Laksa seemed to be getting smaller. And suddenly a dollar or two more expensive. And some of the herbs and extra touches faded away. And I stopped going. The other dishes that I enjoyed — the vego burgers, the imitation nasi lemak-style dish, the cold peanut noodle salad — all seemed to decrease in quality too. Plus they always seemed to be out of the particular steam buns I wanted to order. And so the mighty fall :-(

Zenhouse is a vegetarian and vegan retreat for tasty yum cha, daily lunch specials, and an amazing array of tea. A great spot for lunch, Zenhouse has one daily different for each day of the week. I go on Thursdays for their Deep Fried Satay Soy Fibre. The servings are generous and come with rice and salad. You can opt for the any of the«Western Delights,» which mimic standard Western Fair like Fish and Chips(using soy fibre) as well as a large range of hamburgers. All their food is really tasty, and you don’t really notice that it’s vegetarian — it’s just yummy and a little different! The Tea list is somewhat overwhelming with over 100 options, but they kindly break it into styles to help you narrow it down. You buy tea by the pot, so it’s best to bring a few friends. They focus on using as much home grown organic produce that they can, and only pure vegetable cooking oil — and of course, no MSG. A great spot for vegetarians and non-vegos alike. As a non-vego, I enjoy trying different foods as well as aiming to be healthy. Zenhouse food seems too tasty to be good for you, but I don’t care!
