Combine BlueBee and bring back the old Fasta Pasta and you’d have a buzzing jazz joint reminiscent of the olé’ mafia hang outs in NYC. With a small bar and limited selection of good quality, well priced beer, wine and bubbly this isn’t your Friday night drinks location. However, the intimate and comfy couch and cabaret style seating for 30-ish, and 80 or so standing is a perfect spot to see some live music in the hot or cold months. Acoustics are great and having mostly seated shows here means short asses like me can see what the band actually looks like. Linda is delightful and really open to having more acts in her space and it’d be great to see a more lively and full program down here so you know you could rock up any weekend and see a great jazz, cabaret or swing live show(more of what Adelaide needs). It’d also be cool if you could bring down pizzas from Earth’s Kitchen above or if they had a relationship with a local restaurant who would deliver to add a new element to just seeing a show a drinking here. All in good time though I’m sure! Check their Facebook page for updated show times each week/month.

The Bluebee Room, or the bloobie as some call it(where you get your bloobies out)(optional) is a unique venue in a city of unique venues. The first and most interesting historical fact is it was the home of the world’s first«Fasta Pasta» restaurant(allegedly). The second, is it’s a lot like the bar from«Cheers» the popular 80’s sitcom. Although none of the bar staff resemble Sam or Woody at all. And when I’m there I don’t really resemble Norm. –end pop cultural reference– Linda, who runs the joint is lovely, but admits herself she is terrible with names. So don’t be offended if seems she can’t remember you, Linda probably does, just not your name. I’m yet to see the place utilized as a fringe venue, but seeing bands there was decent. The deeply ridged concrete ceiling works pretty well for acoustics. The bar is pretty cool too. I whole heartedly recommend the range of Swell beers.

I don’t mean to brag or sound like one of ‘those’ hipster douche-bags(we all know the ones I mean…) but I was coming to The BlueBee Room before it was ‘cool’ — well at least before anyone else knew it was cool! Hidden below street level, in the ‘old fasta pasta’ on Pirie street, this unique little venue is the perfect spot to spend with a group of friends, over a wine, beer or even coffee. It’s basic but it’s everything you need — super comfy chairs and an atmosphere that is far from bland — with interesting artwork hanging around and always some kind of activity going on. It’s really the kind of place that you can make your own — you can really inhabit your own corner and create your own experience. The venue is also a great location to catch live music, with a range of very different acts on regularly with generally very low cover charge — and no cover charge if the are no bands!!! I would highly recommend this excellent little secret place for the next time you’re looking for somewhere to chill out with friends or alone!

I really loved this little space when we came here for a ‘noise’ event … it’s deliberately daggy, but not pretentious like so many of the hipster joints that have opened up recently ;) Drinks are limited, but it was nice to see locals such as Hills Cider and Vale Ale in the fridge. It’s cosy and intimate, but still quite spacious — perfect for the event we were there to see/hear. The acoustics were really good too. This area of the city is great to visit too, as it isn’t as busy, and there are quite a few car parks around here. Not sure what this place is like on a ‘normal’ evening, but I would definitely like to visit again to find out ;)
