Long queue in front of this tiny café stopped me in my tracks. Can’t decide what takes my fancy walking up from the railway station, I’ll give this pumping place a go. The queue was quickly dispensed with and customers range from students to workers from nearby offices. A great indication of a popular joint. I was going to have a take away tikka roll at $ 5.90 a piece but quickly changed my mind looking at the menu of what’s on offer. I settled for a small rice combo of a choice of 3 curries. Not bad at $ 6.90 a plate. The small plate is literally ‘small’, a side plate in fact, piled high with my 3 choices! Opted for an eggplant curry which is ok, goat curry with a warning that it’s bone in pieces, great to be advised and last the lamb gosh. All the curries lacked ‘kick’, suppose they have to play safe just in case. But tasted ok. A good cheap meal for lunch. Staff cleared the tables efficiently and patrons mainly order, eat and go. No lingering here for sure, suppose the café doesn’t lend itself for linger ons. Something to note as well is that the numerous Indians who patronised here gave me the confidence that it is good. The kitchen at the back keeps on filling up the Bain Marie whilst I was there, what a busy place for lunch!

This place is so cheap and so good. It gets 5 stars for what it is. Authentic, tasty, quick & affordable Indian food. More than once I’ve popped through on my way to the train, only to spend the 30 minute ride home torturing the other commuters with the delicious smells wafting out of my takeout bag. You get more bang for your buck when you eat in(the medium three curry plate with rice is HUGE and $ 8.90) but the atmosphere is lacking and I prefer to gorge myself in the comfort of my own home. My top selections are the dahl(can’t remember what it’s called but it’s at the front and it’s medium heat) the butter chicken, the korma, and the garlic naan!

North Indian Cuisine is a recent casual dining eatery on the ‘seedy’ part of town that is Hindley Street. I thought it would be something along the lines of a diamond in the rough as say my favourite(and confidently I would say the best Indian restaurant in Adelaide) Indian Temptations down on Main North Road towards the Gepps Cross end. Unfortunately, it is not. I’m not a picky eater at all but to be frank both the vegetarian and meat samosas here is utter crap. Drenched in oil, fillings are dry and lacked spice and flavours — that ‘punch’ of flavour one would expect. The vegetarian samosa is the worst. Large chunks of potato with a pea here and there and little to almost no spice; nothing like a traditional well-made samosa. I know i can’t fully judge this place just based on just their samosas and not their main meals but to be honest if any Indian eatery cannot propery do samosas well then I assume everything else in the place would be way below average regardless. I don’t think I can give this place another go.

You are late, or It is late, you are hungry, maybe had one drink too many, maybe you are nursing a headache, who knows… What if… what if you decided to get fast food not at a greasy burger joint but instead wanted to have a plateful of tasty Indian dishes? Because, why not? N.I.C. offers several dishes buffet style served on top of rice. Very reasonable prices, tasty enough to wipe the plate clean. Along with friendly staff and a side of naan! Rogan Josh is good, Palak Paneer lacks a bit of paneer but otherwise is savory enough, Butter chicken hits the spot every time… Just ask yourself next time you are in such dire situation in the middle of Hindley St., what if?
