I have died and gone to Mamachau Heaven! The Korean Chicken Asian taco!!! The crispy chicken, delicious mayo… Oh my! It’s worth every penny. Do yourself a favour and head on in. Just because I am super picky, I will fault one minor, non-food related thing. Be gone $ 10 eftpos limit!!!

Love the food here! I tried the Asian taco, the pork and the KFC(Korean Fried Chicken)! Both are amazing but I would love the pork more because they FUCKING melts in my mouth! Definitely recommended to all my friends. I will be back mamachau~

Before we talk about food, the service is friendly — always with a smile — and quick, the servings consistent and the quality always high. Now, the food itself. Succulent pork, crispy chicken, zesty toppings. The first time I bit into one of their pork Asian tacos I was struck by the beautiful(make that perfect) balance of flavours and textures. Sweet, salty, soft, chewy, crunchy. Oh man I want another NOW!!! Back soon…

Last week my girlfriend sent me a photo of some delicious looking pork belly in a white bun with some slaw and sauce. She knows that pork belly is my favorite. Which is how I find myself at Mamachau at lunch on Friday. I decided to try 3 of the Bao(or Asian Taco’s if you will). The Chicken, The Tofu and the Pork Belly. The Tofu was good, with out being great. But the other two… off the hook good. The pork had a hell of a lot of flavor to it and the chicken was nice and crispy. And at $ 3.50 each — great value! I will definitely be back and am keen to try the rice box as well! Two thumbs up!

I tried the KFC baos here and it was delicious. The staff are friendly and they welcomed us with big smiles. A good place for someone who needs a quick lunch.

To be honest, the only thing I really remember(went for lunch meeting, mind elsewhere) is deciding I definitely needed to come back. Which doesn’t happen very often!

Had some pork belly tacos and a spring roll for lunch, the tacos were really fresh and tasty, the spring roll was a spring roll, but was pretty good. The menu is spread across 3 walls, with little guidance of how to order. Simplify the menu/order process and it will be much easier, especially when they are busy during the lunch rush. Would eat here again for sure. EDIT I’ve been back, they were sold out of pork belly, so I tried the eel, super good too!

Too full to think about what to write right now! What a great little place this is. Ordered the KFC rice box & shared the edamame & lotus chips with friends — a must have! Food is very cheap & delicious & extremely quick — it was ready before I made it back to my seat.

Wow! I have been here 3 times in a week(#foodstalker) to sample various menu items! Mamachau is a cute little hole in the wall with a hip hop soundtrack and delicious Asian lunchtime eats. I tried the bao(soft, fluffy Asian taco), the ‘KFC’ rice bowl(crispy Korean Fried Chicken with kim chi mayo) and a beef cold roll together with the lotus root chips. These girls understand flavour and all the meats are seasoned perfectly. You can see there’s a lot of time and dedication put in to the food. As other reviewers have said, try the lotus root chips — they are crispy, salty and have a secret little something(star anise?) that makes for a very pleasant lunch.

Mamachau = Wow! Mamachau’s made an appearance at Wild at Hart(a new farmers market down at Port Adelaide) for their grand opening. My mum got to try Mamachau’s that night. Asian tacos my mum said, really good she said. She wasn’t wrong! After a sweet chocolate overload at Koko Black I had to of course feed the yang to my yin through the form of a savoury delight. The concept of asian tacos intrigued me and had to see what my mum was raving on about. Two tacos, a side and a drink for $ 11.50? I was easily sold! KFC bao: Asian slaw, kimchi mayo & korean style chicken. I loved the little hint of mint in the slaw, the tanginess of the mayo and that crunch of the chicken all encased in that soft cloud-like bao. Pork bao: Master-stock pork belly, pickled mustard greens, hoisin, nuts & coriander. The pork just melted in my mouth, incredibly tender. Who knew such a small piece of pork could be so jam packed with flavour. The pickled mustard greens brought a lovely sour balance to this bao. Lotus chips: I loved the crispiness of these, they weren’t oily at all and the seasoning almost had a Smith’s chips BBQ flavour to them. Seriously good! Was not disappointed with the food and service was friendly and swift. I’ll be back again soon, real soon.

With all the hype and 5 star recommendations, how could I not bookmark Mamachau and visit it the next day?! This cute ‘snack bar’ is prefect for a budget watching feed! I ordered the KFC and Pork Belly Asian tacos which were just perfect with hitting all the right flavors in such a small portion size. Fresh herbs, vegetables and amazing sauces/dressing, it was defiantly finger licking goodness! Will be visiting again and again, to try more amazing creations!

I finally got around to trying this lunch/snack spot yesterday as I’ve heard many good things about this place from friends and fellow foodies. Their ‘Asian tacos’ are what I’ve heard that are the must try items on their menus. They’re called ‘baos’ in Vietnamese but is different in the way it is an open bao, whereas traditional steamed baos the meat and/or vegetable contents are enclosed within the white doughy pocket. Mamachau’s baos selection include KFC(Korean fried chicken), pork belly, tofu and I saw eel as well. The most popular ones I’ve noticed on instagram were the KFC and the pork belly. I opted for the KFC bao upon the recommendation of my friend(who has been to this place so often the workers recognise her instantly). One bite in and I was hooked. One bite in and my first thought was«this shit actually lives up to its hype». That fresh slaw and Kim Chi mayo with that tasty fried chicken. Oh my. I wanted more. I could eat a dozen. At $ 3.50 for one it was a bargain. However, they’re pretty small but for the price it made sense. I would treat it more as a snack rather than a lunch. They also got vermicelli noodles, rice bowls, cold rolls and fried lotus root chips. The girls who work there are very nice and friendly as well! Can’t wait for next time!

Second time lucky — popped in during a weekday lunchtime and had the same bright friendly service, and the crispy silken tofu bao. It was well worth the return visit! Napped with plenty of kimchi mayo, a hint of mint & coriander from the herbed slaw, soft bun and hot crunchy tofu — I was in love! $ 3.50 for a little pocket of heaven. Will be back to try the cold rolls!

Hey Mama, its your bao’s that make me move, mama Get in store and steam those buns mama. Ooo la la la la! Blackboard painted walls, wooden share tables and chairs and brightly coloured menu items bring a little chinese cheer to this end of Pirie St. And already these guys have their«regulars» lining up for their freshly made take away asian salads, bao and rice paper rolls. Fresh beef salad again today sir? I wasn’t game enough to try the unagi bao(eel) but I did take the plunge and order the KFC and silken tofu. I’m not really into the whole anonymous meat and processed bean thing but I was genuinely impressed. The chicken was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, spiced with a pepper sauce, the tofu literally was silken and tasted more like the chilli ranch style dressing than of cardboard. A crisp, fresh cabbage and carrot salad to top it off left me forgetting I had just eaten fried chicken and tofu. With meal deals of $ 11.50 for 2 bao/rice paper rolls + side + drink it’s hard to go wrong but I totally could have eaten more. The meals are so light and fresh(and yes a little bite sized) I would probably order a rice paper roll to my dish as well next time. With plump little buns and an über cute exterior, this place is hollering at ya for a little one on one time. So go on, have a perve and a nibble at Mamachau for lunch!

Whoa! Before the nitty-gritty — this place, if you want to find it, is located not on King W. but rather on Pirie St. Why is it advertised as King William, not sure. But, it does seem to be gaining fame and recognition quickly, so ask someone if you get lost. Food — well priced(e.g., $ 3.5 a Bau, $ 6 for 2 rolls), and love that the menu is small yet the food is quality. Bau — good, as described by Lee and Stefan. Chips — like any tuber-based chip, but with a rad shape. Other stuff I don’t know but will let you know when I return(and will return). Staff are friendly, place has spunk. And there are 2 tables inside ad ~4 outside. so take it there or leave with it… but do try it.

So I have wondered a long time if there was anyone in Adelaide that makes Bau(Chinese Taco) and YES there is. The place is called Mamachau, They do 4 flavours, 2 meat and 2 veg, with some added salads wrapped in a steamed rice flour Bau. I tried the Master Stock Pork(So juicy and tasty and a KFC(Korean Fried Chicken) with salad and again it was so delicious. Other items on the menu are a variety of rice paper cold rolls, salads and some rice bowls.(that I’ve yet to try) If the Bau are anything to go by this place is a HIT of Asian Fusion Goodness.
