First time visit saw me here for a High Tea, with friends. One of my friends had an allergy, which was dealt with professionally by staff, offering them food that they could happily eat and not go hungry. The food we received was of excellent quality and taste. Presentation was also supreme. Although this restaurant is definitely more on the expensive side, I can’t wait to return to try more of their food! YUM!

We came here for a special occasion and had a really lovely meal. I can’t fault the place really. We ordered off the vegan menu which is really unusual for a Japanese restaurant to have and saved a lot of asking about Benito flakes, if you’re vegan I’d recommend it. We used the online booking system on their website which worked without fault and gave us a complimentary sake on arrival. Service was quick and the tofu steak was my pick of the night.

Great food! The crowd and atmosphere is a bit ‘hotel restaurant’ and the set up is a bit late nineties but very nice view opposite Parliament House. Good service and very good Japanese. Since Shiki went off the boil this is one of the best in Adelaide

Came for lunch on a Monday and they are not that busy, we were allocated a window seat just above the hotel’s entrance, great place for people watching. From the lunch menu, we chose the tempura for entrée and a bento as main to share. The waitress is friendly and attentive as she noticed that we were still waiting for our entrée, came straight after after the realization. The batter was light with the right crunch. The bento didn’t disappoint with sashimi to start, bowl of miso soup n a bowl of rice and chicken n salmon teriyaki, the obligatory croquettes of potato, fish n chicken n tofu in thick ‘soup’ — haven’t seen this before but it was tasty. To finish off are some cut fruits in the bento. Lucky that I have checked in n got a free flask of cold sake. We found out later that it’s complementary if u have a voucher. Just a note if you have entertainment card, use it as it made our lunch a very reasonable priced lunch!

We had been passing by for quite a while and saying«we need to try this place» and finally, a work anniversary lunch presented itself and that was our opportunity. We had booked online with no issues and were shown through the impressive re-fit into the dining space, where we were given the option to sit at a Western style table or the more traditional sunken table. We chose traditional, slipped off our shoes and took a low seat, complete with comfortable back rest. The«pits» have bridges between tables that can be removed to make longer tables and the room has lovely traditional rice paper screens and tapestry doors that lead into a private dining area. There is a great view through the large picture windows down onto North Terrace which is perfect for people watching. A huge improvement on the old Rickshaw’s Restaurant, which was dark, gloomy and dated. I opted for the $ 10 lunch special of karaage chicken and rice which comes with miso soup, side salad, pickled cucumber and Japanese mayo for dipping. The serve was a good size for lunch and, with a piccolo of sparkling to go with it(garnering a glass and a half), was excellent value. Staff were friendly and attentive and the whole experience was very pleasant. As General Douglas MacArthur said on the railway platform of Terowie, South Australia — «I shall return».

Wow! I was taken here by my partner on a whim, with her 7 year old daughter in tow. She booked online, but when we arrived it seemed that they didn’t receive the online booking, but they did a very good job of smoothing this over and pretending everything was fine, haa!(note — maybe call on the day if booking online). The restaurant itself is gorgeously presented — very Japanese(I couldn’t detect any French influence in anything other than the menu), the waitresses are all dressed traditionally, and there is a separate room if you want to sit in a more traditional style area. The menu is HUGE! I love the fact that the vegan options are all listed separately, and the sushi menu is also separate. Miss 7 loves sushi, so she was very pleased with this option(and proclaimed it the best sushi she had ever had). I ordered the Coffin Bay Oysters for entrée, served with ponzu, yuzu chilli and raspberry vinegar sauce — absolutely delicious, and super-fresh — I could have had many more serves of this! For main, I chose one of the Japanese/French fusion options, the slow cooked duck breast with sweet potato mash, seasonal vegetables, beetroot purée and citrus teriyaki sauce. This was amazingly tender and tasty, I would definitely have this again! The wine selection is amazing(we had Nepenthe wines), and there is a huge sake menu as well(which we didn’t partake of, but will probably try next time). For dessert I had the Macha(Green Tea) Affogato, which was served with an unusual green tea panna cotta. The green tea to pour over was cold, which was my only criticism — I’d probably try the crème brûlée next time! We were very impressed by the little touches for Miss 7 — they brought out a separate bowl for her tofu soup for entrée, as the entrée bowl is a bit hot. They also explained about how hot the wasabi was with her sushi, and brought some cold water to cool down her green tea. It’s these little touches that make the difference. The waiters didn’t keep an eye on our wine glasses, but I think that’s because they were so busy … so I won’t hold that against them! All in all, this is a place I can’t wait to come back to!

Absolutely perfect! A few friends and I were celebrating a birthday at Ginza Miyako a few weeks ago and could not be happier with our experience! The food was beautiful — we had a variety of sashimi, lobster, oyster etc. We also tried a variety of sake. The service was quick and attentive! Would highly recommend and we will definitely be back soon!
