Firstly, I pop in to FFL at least twice a week, I love their vegan lunch selections, but, …I bought a cup of their coconut ice-cream from the pop up in Rundle Mall today. The ice-cream was great, very tasty, nice texture, but what they are charging for toppings is offensive. $ 1 got me ¾ of a strawberry, not ¾ of a punnet of strawberries, I got one ½ and two quarters of a small strawberry!!! My 2nd dollar got me a whiff of some coconut shavings. I couldn’t control my response when I saw the meagre portions, but the nice girl serving me only agreed, without an offer to top up. All up, it cost me close to $ 8 for the equivalent of one scoop with a pretence of topping on top. I’m so happy that FFL are one of a small number of businesses that cater to vegans, but at this price, you may send some back to dairy.

I really really really wanted to like this place, it’s in a convenient spot, they advocate for so many healthy options and there is a nice outdoor seating area on offer. But nope. Admittedly I did just pop in for coffee and a quick browse but it didn’t leave me with a warm fuzzy feeling. As I walked in on the pursuit of coffee, I noticed a sign on the coffee machine«Fresh Almond Milk» as someone who’s tummy does not agree with cows milk, I thought«yay another coffee shop offering an alternative to Soy». So I ordered and paid for my coffee — Small Almond Milk Latte w an Extra Shot — $ 5.80 and at that price my expectations immediately soared. I had a browse around the store and noticed quite a few health food products & brands that I am already familiar with, some of which I can purchase in my local(shhh don’t tell anyone but chain store) supermarket. The barista hunted me out in the store and hand delivered my coffee while I was browsing, this was really lovely of her and I think I was just lucky to have popped in at a quite time to get this kind gesture but it was a HUGE step up from the«nothing» service I had received when ordering. Unfortunately with high hopes for my coffee I was quickly brought back to earth with my first sip. It was only just luke warm, gritty, sour, very very weak in strength(even with my order of a double shot) actually, it did not even smell like coffee. I had a few sips to make sure I wasn’t delusional, but although my taste buds hated me, it confirmed it was actually the worst coffee I have had in a very long time. It’s left such a bad taste in my mouth(pun 100% intended) that I won’t be back to sample the sweets or salads from their cabinet.

Want a fresh, yummy, healthy salad and want it fast? Then this the place to go! Just a hop skip and a jump from the rundle mall canopy this place is sure to please if you love eating wholesome food. A large range of vegan salads but don’t worry meat eaters are also catered for. Coffee is not worth Unilocaling about… You can eat your gluten free chicken wrap and then wander through protein powders, organic makeup and vitamins! .

My extremely awesome and enthusiastic sister insisted on showing me her favourite lunch spot when I met her in the city the other day — Foods for Life. I managed to beat her to the café somehow, which allowed me to go for a bit of a wander through the place, and I was impressed by the range of different health products which were available. Having said that, being a man who doesn’t really get into the whole ‘supplement’ thing, I’m probably not the ideal person to be judging the depth/quality of the range. It did look fairly impressive though. Anywho, we ordered the days curry(for me) and the days soup(for my sis), a couple of coffees and settled down on the outdoor seating to watch the world go by. The food came out quickly and was tasty enough. The coffee, it was fine. What was wicked good you ask? The outdoor seating, I answer… And, my sisters company. Or she’ll kill me. Seriously. Located on the northern side of Gawler place, it’s a sweet spot to just sit and watch the eclectic mixture of characters which make up Adelaide wander around, some with purpose, others just wandering around happily like a blindfolded child in a lolly shop. I enjoyed it.

I went to FFL for the first time and was SO excited to finally have found a health food store in Rundle Mall(so I can pop down at lunch). They have an extensive range of products and all the good brands. I walked out with a few items but I didn’t find what I was looking for and I was disappointed staff didn’t try to order it in for me as most health food stores are very accommodating when you are looking for obscure items! I do look forward to trying lunch here one day!

I’m like a fat kid on a flaxseed, dairy free, raw cake at this place. If you’re like me an «unable to help yourself to something a little sweet» when out and about then come here. Even if you do treat yourself it will be with something wholesome, macro-biotically good for you and probably saved 2 baby lambs in the process of being produced. On a serious side though this place is a one stop shop for vitamins, body building products, teas, snacks, breads and your basic foods, health and beauty and CD’s of waterfall sounds from around the globe. And you don’t feel like you have not be wearing shoes to go in there. The lunches are amazingly fresh with healthy salads of beetroot and beans, carrot and beans, tabouli, falafels and everything else good. You can also get them in wrap or sandwich form. Unfortunately the coffee is pretty ordinary and the service isn’t amazing(unless you’re a regular and they then remember your order back and front) but you would definitely still come in here for a healthy take away lunch on weekdays or weekends. And if you have any sort of intolerance or special diet you can definitely cater for it here.
