Lovely location across the way from Adelaide Oval w a great view of the jumbo screen. Great chips and ok pork slider. Here to watch the NYE fireworks in Elder Park on a brilliant 14C evening. Service is awesome and food reasonably priced. Should be fun!

27÷1÷2012 Wow! What a nice warm day out on a Friday afternoon. It really doesn’t feel like Friday when I’m in the zone with all this Unilocaling! Time flies by when you’re having a good relaxing time! Whoever first invented Unilocal is an absolute genius! I decided to have a power drink at the city’s glorified Elder Park Café. I’ve spent the last few hours Unilocaling my way through crazy Hindley Street, so I needed somewhere to relax and unwind. The more I Unilocal and get to know Adelaide a bit better, the more I’m going to miss places like these. When Mario P wrote«This place earns its rating for the view», he wasn’t kidding because I highly agree with this absolutely delightful view!

The Café is a really nice place to sit and take in Elder Park. There are views of the Torrens, the Hackney Bridge and the Rotunda. The paddle boats are also based near by and during the summer time you can watch the rowers from the café. The Elder Park Café, serves coffee, food, soft drinks and icecream. They also have a liquor license, so I you feel like having a beer or wine by the Torrens, you can get one here, can be a little bit pricey though. There is a nice large outdoor eating area which extends quite a way forward from the café. The tables are under cover from umbrellas, so there is protection from the elements.

This place earns its rating for the view. Elder Park, River Torrens… it’s a wonderful place to sit and sip, and experience the resonance of Adelaide. I’m a person who’s easily pleased with foods and drink. I’m also mostly broke, and consequently cheap. For this reason, I very rarely eat anything at a café. Mostly, I sample the coffee. I really, really love a macchiato, and one of the reasons I love it is for its consistency. In my experience, it’s really difficult for a café to stuff up a macchiato. Of course, it HAS happened, but rarely. For this reason it’s hard to lay down some reviews, because wherever I go I walk away happy and satisfied. Maybe this is just because Adelaide has a lot of great places to choose from. At the Elder Park Café I tend to mix things up a bit. They do a great macchiato but, as I’ve said, so does almost everyone else. What I find they do really well is just a good, old-fashioned latté. They steam the milk a little more than usual, which, for me, is just right. One of my favourite things to do in the world(up there with driving fast in the middle of the night with all my windows down) is to settle down to Elder Park by myself, order a latté and settle down to enjoy the view.

Elder Park Café has one substantial advantage over other cafes in Adelaide: location. Set amongst the greenery of our most iconic park, the café has sweeping views of the Torrens, rolling green lawns, the rotunda, the Festival Theatre, and even snippets of North Adelaide. Gees, talk about scenery hogging! All in all, a pretty sweet little spot, which the café capitalises on with a high-up location and lots of open air(and shaded, thank god) seating. The menu is your basic café fare, with lots of salads, and mains averaging about $ 15. They also do a good breakfast menu as well — though sadly it’s only to 11am so that counts me out in general. *cough* night owl *cough*. To me, the café is more about on the go snacks than sit down meals. Not sure why, but it has a deli/kiosk feel to it. It’s very casual — the kind of place I get an ice cream, or a bucket of chips at most, and a cold drink, have a pit stop, then continue on with my Elder Park adventures.
