This fabulous shop stocks knitting yarn: nice selection of Noro, Debbie Bliss, Biggan Designs, Naturally Waikiwi and some others. They also have the largest selection of Knit Pro needles that I have ever seen in any shop, anywhere: better that shops in New York, Los Angeles or Paris — The Button Bar wins hands down. Straights, interchangeables(standard and short), DPNs, cables, crochet hooks: they have it all. If you are in Adelaide and you knit, this is the shop you must visit.

Wonderful range of buttons that you can buy individually. Need 2? Buy 2, not a packet of 20 not matching ones from elsewhere. I’ve been going here for years and I am so glad that this independent business is still thriving.

The Button Bar have a good range of buttons available along with a fair range of other crafty things to sew onto your lacklustre clothing and apparel — it is reasonably pricey compared to(say) Lindcraft or Best and Less, but the range is reasonably top end rather than middle range. You’d probably be able to use it as a yard stick, go on in and look for ideas and then check out the cheaper places to get something that looks close enough and satisfactory. Or splurge the better part of the budget here and go cheaper on the rest. Sometimes a garment can look pretty glum until it has the right application of glitz. If you can’t find something but you know it does exist ask the owners, Peter or Sylvia Collins, and they’ll try to find what you are looking for and get it in for you; you’ll find them behind the counter.

The button bar is wall to wall glitz and glamour. Bespeckling every corner are sequin patches, trimmings, buttons, and findings most dazzling. You’re not going to find these items on offer anywhere else in Adelaide. If you’re into costuming and craft, this is the place to go. The last time I was here I bought a sequin palm tree patch which I used for a burlesque costume. On that occasion I also bought a rhinestone skull patch which I am not sure what I will use it for, but whatever the lucky garment that uses it, you can bet it will be the better for it. Items out of display cases are extremely affordable, so if an item of clothing is missing that something special, tweak it with a pretty patch or button. Within the display classes are thousands of rhinestoned and sparkly jewels to bling you up massive. The bling is a bit more expensive, but as I said, where else are you going to get it?

Hundreds of sparkling and colourful eyes welcome you into the shop. The store is filled with buttons of all sizes and designs, shapes and styles. I came in here on a mission to replace the 12 buttons on the front of a dress bodice. The shop owner helped me find something matching, leading me away from the large, cloth coloured pieces to the smaller, less conspicuous ones which I had to agree looked better on the dress. Yet next time I want to make a button necklace, I’m going back for the cloth ones! They also have many appliques, sequins, beads, badges, brooches, pins, belt buckles, lace, edging and sewing equipment. This is a one stop shop for all the finishing touches on a special outfit. And a great place to browse for ideas if you’re wondering what you could make.
