Weihenstephaner

Wir saßen im Keller, der für einen gemütlichen Bierabend in geselliger Runde perfekt geeignet ist. Weihenstephaner Bier mag ich gerne, kannte aber nur das normale Weizen und das Pils. Hier gibt es vom Faß noch diverse andere leckere Sorten. Ich entschied mich, für diesen Abend beim unfiltrierten Weihenstephaner Kellerbier zu bleiben. Als Kellerbier-​Freund kann ich nur sagen — lecker. Es handelt sich hier um ein saisonales und befristetes Angebot, das Kellerbier gibt es nicht ganzjährig.
Das Essen war recht lecker und rustikal und ist natürlich deutlich bayrisch beeinflusst. Allerdings war die Schweinshaxe so extrem riesig, dass die Hälfte gereicht hätte.
Der Service war zügig und freundlich. Also es gibt wirklich nichts zu kritisieren und ich komme gerne mal wieder.

Wir waren heute zum 2. mal da. Und waren wieder begeistert. Das Weizen vom Hahn ist lecker und schmeckt nach mehr. Zum Glück braucht man hier kein Auto sondern kommt per S-​Bahn bis vor die Tür. Die Keller sind urig und gemütlich. Das Personal ist sehr zuvorkommend und locker. Getränke und Essen kamen zügig an den Tisch. Nach einiger Zeit erstürme eine Truppe beim Jungegesellenabschied den Keller. Die wurden einen Keller weiter platziert, was ganz gut war… und eine Horde Engländer wurden nach dem ersten German-​Beer lustig und laut. Aber das alles ist hier ok, war lustig anzusehen und auch nicht störend. Vermutlich wurde von der Truppe die große Weltpolitik diskutiert (oder doch mehr banale Themen…). Uns hat es prima gefallen. Die Preise sind ok, sind nun mal im Berliner Zentrum. Die Portionen sind genau richtig, der Nachtisch Hausgemacht und lecker. Für uns ist dies ein Stück Bayern in Berlin und verkürzt die Wartezeit auf dem Wanderurlaub. In Berlin gibts halt keine Berge.
Durch den Keller gibts keinerlei Handyempfang. Das Gäste-​WLAN war heute nicht da, was nicht schlimm ist, aber doch wieder in Betrieb gehen sollte. Ist heute einfach Standard.
Als wir aufbrechen wollten wurden wir von einer «Knuddelattacke» der Engländer erfasst. Herzlich und Echt. So ist Berlin.

Es war zwar sehr voll Dienstag abend doch der freundliche Kellner hat unserer Gruppe einen Tisch geben können. Vom Geräuschpegel ging es sogar war nicht zu laut. Unten im Keller sind weitere Sitzplätze und auch die Toiletten gelegen. Die Karte besteht aus deutschen Gerichten, Bier und Softdrinks. Ich fand es hier für den Hackeschen Markt gar nicht mal so überteuert. Hat mich preislich positiv überrascht und der Kellner fragte uns auch oft, ob alles ok ist und wir noch etwas möchten… Also guter Service trotz voller Stube. Nächstes Mal kommen wir wieder her.

Zuviele Tische draußen und zuwenig Personal. Das Essen kam halbkalt an den Tisch, der Spargel in der Suppe war noch fast roh. Der Hackesche Markt auf dem besten Wege zur Touristenfalle.

This casual restaurant, conveniently located in the heart of Hackesher Markt, aims to bring the Alps to Berlin by serving Tirolian specialties and beer from the Bavarian State Brewery, Weihenstephan. Despite this heartwarming concept, I found it a completely mediocre place to get dinner.
I had the «Krustenschweinebraten,» which is pork roast with crackling in dark beer sauce, with potato dumplings and bacon coleslaw. Although the portion was huge, especially for the price (€ 13), everything was super salty, and I was gulping down my beer by the end. Although the pork was perfectly tender, the potato dumplings were the worst I’ve encountered in Germany: they were weirdly gummy and completely tasteless. I hardly wanted to use them to swab up the tasty beer sauce because they were such a waste of chewing. Maybe the «Schweins´hax´n» (pork knuckle in brown ale sauce on pickled cabbage with potato dumplings) would have been a better choice?
They had Spätzle as a special, and I would recommend that if they have it – especially if you’re tired of being barraged by meat. The Spätzle came with a refreshing sauté of onions, spinach, and tomatoes, but unfortunately this dish was again a bit salty.
The charcuterie plate was quite comprehensive, and definitely worth the € 13,90. I especially liked the addition of white radish on top.
Our waiter was prompt enough but rather withdrawn. Although the availability of English menus makes it easy to order, then you’ll get hit with the pushy «Service is NOT INCLUDED» line on your receipt, so I guess it’s a tradeoff.
Overall, I’m not convinced that this isn’t a tourist trap. Yes, the beer is good, but where isn’t it?

Wow. Can’t say enough about this place. Maybe one of my top dining experiences ever. Great food and beer, but the setting puts it over the top. Street performers and beautiful weather combined for a truly unique and enjoyable experience.

Tasty, fresh, good brew. Had a sausages with potato salad, a pretzel, and a potato-​vegetable soup. Paired with some halbes of beer it was refreshing.

Um Grundlage zu schaffen, fürs Craft Spirits Festival entschlossen wir uns hierher zu begeben (da es auf dem Weg lag): Haxe sollte es sein dacht ich mir mal wieder.
Geschmacklich ok, vorallem die Kruste war sehr gelungen. Nur typisch Bayrisch wars nicht. Die Soße zu sehr abgebunden aber komischerweise ist das so üblich in Berlin, hatte ich auch schon woanders so gesehen. Auch kam mir ein Rotweingeschmack durch der bei einer Schweinshaxn nichts zu suchen bzw. nicht vordergründlich schmecken darf. Das Sauerkraut ok auch wenn ich denke das Sahne enthalten war (kann mich auch täuschen) die ich in nem Kraut auch nicht brauche. Portionsgrüße und Preis echt völlig ok. Service wunderbar auf Zack, sehr freundlich und professionell.
Grundlage war geschaffen, hielt auch lange an ! Also Ziel erfüllt !

Looks like a tourist trap given location but is not. Enormous portions of German comfort food and a carnivore’s delight. Cool cavernous interior.

Waren hier zu dritt. Leider hat mein Buddy nicht reserviert und so war es erstmal schwer einen Platz zu bekommen. Die überaus hilfsbereiten Mitarbeiter haben aber nichts unversucht gelassen uns nicht weg zu schicken und so haben wir dann doch noch ein Platz — sogar am Fenster — bekommen.
Die Bedienung war nett und aufgeschlossen und auch immer fix zur Stelle, wenn es etwas neues zu bestellen gab.
Der Käseteller und das Helle waren echt lecker und der Haselnuss-​Schnaps aufs Haus hat den Besuch in dieser «Erlebnisgastronomie» sehr positiv abgerundet.

I am working around the corner and go there from time to time. in general they have good food, but a bit pricey when compared to all the lunch offers in this area. Keep in min that the traditional Bavarian food is quite heavy. They also have smaller snacks and nice sweets/​deserts.
The beer is awesome, try to go with the recommended seasonal beers!
the location itself features a nice outdoor big beer garden you can enjoy during warmer seasons, and some decent indoor space.
service is friendly and quick, the meals seem to be prepared fresh.
if you just want some drinks and snacks/​sweets or your really hungry (for bavarian food), you will like this place. for day 2 day food its a bit too much.

Überraschenderweise ist der Weihenstephaner am Hackeschen Markt eine Top-​Adresse. Warum überrascht es?
Wer die Ecke Berlins kennt, dass man in vielen Restaurants und Bars dort Enttäuschungen gewohnt ist. Zum Ausgehen ist die Gegend sehr schön, aber aufgrund der vielen Touristen spezialisieren sich viele Gaststätten darauf, einmal an einem Touristen zu verdienen. Entsprechend ist der Service mancherorts nicht vorhanden. So nicht im Weihenstephaner! Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und kompetent. Absolute Voll-​Profis, die bedienen können und sicher auftreten. Man fühlt als Gast willkommen.
Das Essen, ob Gulasch oder Haxe schmeckt sehr sehr gut. Die Biere aus der eigenen Brauerei frisch und lecker. Im Sommer kann man draußen Trubel sitzen und im Winter ist der Keller perfekt. So stellt man sich ein deutsches Restaurant vor: gemütlich und warm. Die Betreiber verstehen ihr Handwerk in jedem Punkt! Sehr empfehlenswert.

I was there twice (in October 2014). First time it was too cold outside so we decided to sit inside. The beer was perfect, their service was also good. The second time, it was a sunny day, we sat outside and ordered beer and a mixed cheese plate (good and tasty). All the tables outside were occupied therefore they took a lot of time taking our order and also to bring them (not a good excuse!!)
Then I noticed a waitress shouting at a group of girls asking them to leave (immediately before that I heard a glass cracking on the floor). I don’t know exactly what happened there (and really don’t care) but the reaction from the waitress was a little bit too harsh and not professional.
The other bad thing I saw which I have to mention was that two English speaking ladies were asking a man beside the counter (which I believe is restaurant’s manager) for the toilets. They seemed confused and unable to follow the sign. At the time I passed them by the man was teasing them, asking about the necessity of learning German and also telling them the WC sign is international (all in German) … :(
That’s really annoying.
At least the friendly waitress came and helped them in English.

Ok, while I was not completely thrilled to be eating at what seemed like a huge tourist attraction of a restaurant, we were in the area, there was a huge patio, and sustenance was required. Enter Weihenstephaner.
And if you find yourself in this situation, remember these 7 words: Südtiroler Spinatknödel mit brauner Butter und Parmesan.
That’s Spinach dumplings from Southern Tyrol with brown butter and Parmesan cheese to you.
This quite possibly was one of the best things I have ever had. I mean, wow. 3 huge dumplings covered in shredded parmesan and, you guessed it, a butter sauce. Dumplings by nature tend to be a little dry and although I would have liked a little more of the butter these were fantastic. My friends were jealous of my meal the entire time! If I had any sort of culinary skill I would make these at home. I don’t, though. Sad.
Another notable dish was the cheese sausages, which we shared. Juicy and cheesy, exactly what we needed.
There are probably many other diamonds in the rough all over Berlin but this place was a nice surprise and worth the stop. I mean, you can’t beat dining al fresco!

They have great beer but the food isn’t very good, it is overpriced and the service isn’t stellar either.

Am Hackeschen Markt fällt es einem sehr schwer sich für ein Lokal zu entscheiden ,
aber unsere Wahl viel auf das Weihenstephaner und wir haben es nicht bereut ! Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und das Essen hat auch gut geschmeckt, die Portionsgrößen fand ich, waren in Ordnung, man ist auf jeden Fall satt geworden !
Wir würden immer wieder dorthin gehen !

Good food, i think, its my first time ever eating this. Good beers. I think they brew their own. And my experience was great since i was there during the Germany game of the world cup 2014! Service was very good as well.

Dieses Bierlokal ist direkt im Herzen des Hackeschen Marktes. Ich finde es ist auch ein typisches Touristenlokal, dementsprechend sind auch die Preise. Für eine Leberknödelsuppe fast Euro 6,00 zu bezahlen, bin ich eigentlich nicht bereit. Drei Sterne deshalb weil die Bedienung freundlich war und das Ambiente durch den Markt mir sehr gefallen hat.

Weihenstephaner is a great place to sit outside and enjoy a meal.
I came here with a large group last week while I was visiting Berlin and we grabbed a table on the front patio. Our waiter was great and he definitely provided one of the better service experiences that I had while abroad.
We all started out with the one liter beers. They were enormous and I loved the Hefeweißbier I tried. It was definitely hard to drink that much beer in one sitting but most of us tried and very few of us failed!
For my meal several friends and I decided to split a bunch of different things to sample as much German cuisine as possible. We went with the pretzels, spinach dumplings, cheese sausage, and the cheese plate. I’ll review each separately:
*Pretzels: I think I may have a different view on what a pretzel should be but these were hard and not very flavorful. I had a bite of mine and moved on. Not what I was hoping for but it was the only low point in an otherwise amazing meal so I digress.
*Spinach Dumplings: If you go here you MUST try these. They were simply out of this world and one of the best things I ate during the entirety of my travels. They are perfect balls of spinach in flavorful brown butter. I wish I could eat them everyday.
*Cheese Sausage: The cheese sausage is perfectly complemented by the horseradish and mustard served with it. I couldn’t get enough! Another one of my dining companions ordered the six sausage sampler and I also tried some of that, the sausage at Weihenstephaner is all awesome and definitely worth expericing.
*Cheese Plate: Great array of cheeses on this plate. I was so full from the sausage, beer, and spinach by the time I got to the cheese plate I didn’t get to fully enjoy the this but everything I sampled was great.
*Pork Knuckle: I also sampled some of another friend’s pork knuckle. I was totally in love with the brown ale gravy it was cooked in. It definitely beat the other pork knuckle I sample while in Berlin and I wish I’d been able to eat more of it.
If you can’t tell from my gushing review, I really enjoyed this spot and would highly recommend it to anyone who happens upon it in Berlin.

Gleich vorweg: Das Weihenstephaner ist genau das, was man sich als Tourist unter einem typischen Deutschen Brauhaus vorstellt, was aber nicht heißen soll, daß man es als Touristenfalle betitulieren sollte.
Die Lokation ist exzellent, direkt am Hackeschen Markt.
Die Räumlichkeiten im Lokal sind groß, vor allem im Keller, und reichen auch für größere Gruppen. Die Auswahl an Bier ist sehr gut, und bietet für jeden etwas.
Die Gerichte bieten keine besonderen Überraschungen und entsprechen doch genau dem, was man von einem typisch ‘Deutschem’ Brauhaus erwartet. Die Portionen sind angemessen, und der Geschmack zufriedenstellend.
Der Schweinekrustenbraten hatte, für meinen Teil, etwas zu viel harte Kruste, war aber ansonsten sehr akzeptabel.
Der Geräuschpegel im Keller ist etwas höher, vor allem, wenn das Lokal gut besucht ist, auf Grund der Akkustik im steinernen Gewölbe.
Die Bedienung hätte aufmerksamer bzw. geduldiger sein können. Es ist zwar verständlich, daß bei einer Gruppe von über 25 Besuchern, die sich alle unterhalten, es schwierig sein kann, sich Gehör zu verschaffen, jedoch endete es beim ersten Versuch damit, daß die Bierbestellungen, und später auch die Gerichte zumeist einfach auf einem Tisch abgelegt wurden, und die Kollegen selber rausfinden mußten, welches Bier, bzw. Essen ihres war.
Für den Service gibt es deshalb mindestens einen Punkt Abzug.

One of the few places open on Christmas Day, so I was delighted to have a hot proper German meal for Christmas dinner! Nice restaurant, very cozy feeling. All wood inside, made me feel rustic. They have a big patio outside, which I’m sure is really nice to enjoy when the weather is warm.
Got the whole German experience I feel when I was here. Even the waitresses were in the traditional attire. I ordered what one of the most popular dishes is, as it was my first time, the Goulash. I had this and another item picked out and the waitress recommended it, so I went with it. It was a nice hot meal that was much needed after a full day of walking around. It was really tasty and full of flavor. I pretty much inhaled it. I didn’t order any beer, but everything looked good and the selection was pretty extensive as well as the food items.
It’s 2 stories, we sat downstairs. I had a little trouble finding the ladies room since I didn’t understand the labels, but luckily there was a kind gentlemen who pointed me in the right direction. (it’s the last door on the right) Careful on the stairs, very narrow. The staff were very kind and attentive. Had a really nice time. Seems to also be in a pretty central spot in Berlin. Super close to the Altes Museum and the subway/​underground system is just across the way as well. Hagaan Dazs is right next door too :)

Das Essen ist gut, jedoch könnten die Portionen größer sein für diesen Preis.
Wenn man unten im Kellergewölbe sitzt ist es sehr laut und stickig.

Top:
— Die Bedienung: Aufmerksam, schnell und superfreundlich.
— Die Lage: Zentral direkt am S-​Bhf Hackescher Markt.
— Die Location: Gut und abwechslungsreich eingerichtet. Zahlreiche unterschiedliche Plätze; entweder draußen, drinnen oder im urig im Keller.
— Die Auswahl an Bieren: 6 oder 7 Sorten vom Fass und noch mehr aus der Flasche.
Nicht so doll:
— Die Qualität des Fassbieres: Schmeckte leider etwas abgestanden, zumindest 2 der 3 Sorten, die wir hatten.
— Die Preise: Sehr gehoben.
Die Größe und Qualität der Speisen war ok, aber nicht herausragend gut. Für die geforderteten Preise kann man echt mehr erwarten.

Sehr leckeres essen und man kann gemütlich auf der Terasse sitzen.

Great place to sit outside and have a beer. Try the wheat beer (Weißbier), it is delicious!
Food here was typical. The curry wurst was a bit more «upscale» than the traditional sausage with curry ketchup splashed on top that I am used to but very tasty and very reasonably priced.
Staff was very friendly to a couple of Americans (always appreciated) and we had a great time spending a June evening here.

Moderate Preise und nicht viel auf dem Teller. Bier ist spitze und die Bedienungen sehr umsichtig. Die bayrisch-​Crème kann ich aber niemandem empfehlen. Schmeckt wie eine Teigmischung für Kuchenboden.

Das Ambiente finde ich sehr schön. Bei gutem Wetter sitzt man mitten im Trubel des Hackeschen Marktes. Oft auch schöné Livemusik dazu.
Der Zwiebelrostbraten schmeckte mir sehr gut. Die Portion war allerdings etwas übersichtlich.
Ich bin gegen Megaportionen, bei denen oft ein Teil anschliessend im Müll landet. Als Normalesser sollte man aber schon satt werden können.
Sehr schöné Biere auf der Karte. Aktuell gibt es noch Maibock (sehr lecker). Es gibt auch exotische bayerische Starkbiere auf der Karte.

Gezwungender Maßen etwas touristisch, auch vom Preis, aber das Bier ist verdammt gut :)

Great location right under the train station. There is a good flow of people in this area, which makes for good people watching. If the weather is good it’s wonderful to sit outside and enjoy the open square. I ended up coming back here a few times, and I’ll tell you why:
The beer is good, and the service is fast and friendly. I tried several beers and all were good, normally I’m not a big Weihenstephaner fan, but on tap it’s always better. I had a sausage salad as well, which was well done.
Other times I visited there it was busy, but still the beer and service were very smooth. Nice location, recommend!

Denna restaurang och ölhall har väl allt vad en turist månne önska i Tyskland: servitris i dirndl, mat med knödel, och god bayersk öl?
Både läget och i viss mån utseendet får det att se ut som en stereotyp turistfälla, men både mat, service och öl gör restaurangen värd ett besök!
Både gulaschen och Schweine’hax’n var välgjorda och smakade utmärkt. Deras apfelstrudel var ok, men jag har ätit bättre. Deras vaniljglass med rostade pumpakärnor och pumpakärneolja var helt klart en intressant upplevelse även om olja nog mer är en förvärvad smak.

Wir waren sehr überrascht von dem Lokal. Urdeutsche Restaurants in so zentraler Touristenlage sind meistens mit Vorsicht zu genießen. Wir wurden eines besseren belehrt.
Großes aber nicht ungemütliches Restaurant.
Das Essen, Krustenbraten mit Sauce und Knödel, war super lecker. Die Portion war nicht gerade klein. Für 11,90 Euro kann man da nichts zu sagen.
Ein Dessert musste dann später auch noch sein. Kaiserschmarrn. Warm und frisch. Ein Gedicht.
Die Toiletten waren sauber und im Keller.
Die weibliche Servicekraft mit dem osteuropäischen Namen und Bayrischen Akzent war ebenso ein Hingucker und freundlich locker :-)

wir waren hierim Gewölbekeller, etwas versteckt und verwinkelt unten im Lokal.
Die Bedienung war etwas merkwürdig und nicht wirklich freunldich, dennoch schnell. Allerdings erst nachdirekter Ansprache wurden Getränke gebracht. lag scheinbar adarn, dass wir in iener größeren Gesellschaft da waren. Esist ja eher das Lokal für Bietrimker, daher die Weine auf der Karte nicht zu meiner Zufriedenheit, da nur wenige Sorten. Das Essen war aber gut bis sehr gut. Die Gänseplatte (Keule und Brust, Knödel und Rotkohl für 23, — EUR war preislich angemessen und sehr gut.

Was taken here by a native Berliner who assured me that despite the slightly touristy feel to the place, I would be guaranteed good German food and beer. And indeed I was. I should stress that this isn’t Berlin food, this is a variety of different German regions but I’m not a local so I was just happy to tuck into a sausage platter and a wheat beer. Great pretzels too. Meal came to € 20 plus tip, making it good value for money.

Great beer restaurant with some good food too. Try the Schweinshaxe and the dark wheat beer. The portions are more then generous and service was really good too. Certainly recommended.

Der Laden ist gut für große, biertrinkende Gruppen und kulinarisch anspruchslose Touristen aus der Provinz. Alle anderen sollten einen Bogen um das Weihenstephaner machen. Ich hatte an einer tourisitisch so exponierten Lage nicht viel erwartet, wurde dennoch enttäuscht. Mein Käseteller (EUR 12) kam nach zweimaliger Aufforderung nach knapp einer Stunde (der Laden war halb leer) und bestand aus 3 identisch-​schmeckenden Käsesorten der Kategorie Discount-​Supermarkt. Das gereichte Brot war alt und zäh. Der Leberkäse meiner Begleitung war angeblich ganz in Ordnung.
Atmosphäre: lieblos eingerichtetes Großrestaurant aus der Retorte
Service: zahlreich, dafür unaufmerksam, unprofessionell und unfreundlich
Küche: Gut für Freunde von fleischlastiger Masse statt Klasse, die kein Problem mit Tüten– und Tiefkühlkost haben. Dafür entschieden zu teuer.

In Berlin braucht man das vielleicht nicht aber es ist sehr lecker dort. Auch ein sehr gutes Festtagsbier. Ich hatte ein Schnitzel mit Brezel und Käse Panade. Das war wirklich sehr schmackhaft.

Delicious bavarian cuisine, nice service, normal prices in a lovely location… What more should we ask for?

Lovely place. Has a large outdoor seating area that I imagine is quite popular during warm months; but on a chilly, rainy new years day I sat inside. Beautiful interior, lots of table seating, all wood, candles and electric lighting. Friendly servers that speak English. Great place to top into for some of the less common Weihenstephaner beers.

First meal in Berlin. Good service, good food, good beer. Would go back again. Had the sauerbraten. Beef was a bit dry, but the red cabbage and sauce was amazing. Had the seasonal «Vitus» weizenbock. Very delicious.

What a lovely oasis. We saw this amid the sea of restaurants adjacent to the bahn stop and passed it by initially, worried that this might feel like a touristy or «chain» restaurant experience. Instead, we scoured the Hackescher Markt neighborhood looking for an «indie» bratwurst lunch spot to no avail. So, we made our way back and wandered in Weihenstephaner.
I have quaffed many a Weihenstephaner from the taps of my favorite German restaurant in New York (located in the West Village) and so did relish the opportunity to imbibe the elixir this close to the source. The beer was great, as expected, but the Bavarian food absolutely delighted. The pretzels were unbelievably good and the spicy and sweet mustard on the tables made it easy to indulge in your favorite condiment. The small bratwursts on a bed of warm sauerkraut, plus a bowl of potato-​leek soup (which must have had cheese and maybe a touch of beer in it, as well), provided the pinnacle of comfort food on a blustery and wet January afternoon.
The atmosphere was cozy and just lovely. The light of the chandeliers was warm and the theme was farmhouse without the kitsch or feeling phony. The downstairs grottos – which you pass through on the way to the WC– were particularly interesting, though empty as we were there for late lunch on a weekday. The waitresses were attentive and unassuming and corrected us when we attempted to tip a shade over 10% by rounding up – our waitress insisted we be precise and give no more than 10%. Our lunch tab for two totaled less than 30 Euro. I would readily return here and recommend Weinstephaner (the beer AND the restaurant) without hesitation!
